i know there are some people that run those with winches withut issue, but to me, the angles just look like they are going to rip the front end off of someones truck... a couple 1/4" plate gussets aren't going to take that stress......

The whole this is made from 1/4 inch,   I think 3/16 is too thin? I have a lot of 3/16 but ill go buy 1/4

did you weld those 3/8 gussets to the stock front hanger? I dont think 3/8 is needed when the metal you are attaching it to is nto even that thick, I think all you did there is add more weight?

yeah 3/8 is overkill for sure, 3/16 would have been plenty.  But sometimes its all about using what you have laying around in your garage.  I know I have a few triangle shaped 3/8 plate pieces around that i use for gussets every once and a while.

I personally dont like the smittybuilt ones, but i do like the look of tube.  check out this one on my website http://www.c4fabrication.com/Products.html
I know that one is for a 3rd gen 4runner, but it is a unique mix of tube and plate.  i could build one like that for older 4runners too i'm sure.  I honestly dont really now of many companies other than trail-gear, all-pro, and marlin that make tube bumpers.

the pics on that page dont get bigger, but you can go to my "automotive fab" page and find more pics of it there that are bigger
