Fab Installing a Rubicon Express Crossmember
« on: Apr 20, 2012, 10:32:46 AM »
Hey all. I am installing a Rubicon Express Tri-link onto a friends TJ, problem is the kit is for an Unlimited. None of the bolts line up correct so I've gotten rid of the frame mount bungs. I plan to weld the crossmember and arm mounts directly to the frame. I have it all tacked in and lined up.

My question. I know the Jeep frames are strong, they are fairly thick, but will this design having the very rigid crossmember welded to the frame cause any issues? Should I plate the outside frame? Should I weld it up and run it  :crossed: ?

Are you welding the inside and outside? Since there are link mounts on it, probably wouldn't hurt to wrap some straps from the frame to crossmember. But i tend to over engineer things.

I think it would be fine.
some guys weld tabs straight to the frame, for there links,
if you think it would hold up on a toy then it would hold on a jeep/
I say go for it, never hurts to brace tho
