Our club shop was broken into!
« on: Dec 22, 2011, 10:38:20 AM »
 :maddest:
I just got a call from Todd saying that he got a phone call that our club shop was broken into.  as far as I know right now, the tubing bender was unbolted from the ground and is gone.  I'm hoping that the welders and plasma are still there :crossed:.  Someone saw a black jeep cherokee leaving the shop around 5PM yesterday, 12-21-2011.  I'm trying to find out more details at the moment of the jeep and if it was lifted, stock, etc.  Todd also said that the tools looked like they had been rumaged through, so not sure whats missing yet.  Mike's on his way there right now to check it out right now.  Please if anyone has any information on this let me know or call Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111 or me at 805-215-3437.  I'm going to get a reward together for any information leading to the theives that broke in.  It was obviously someone who knew about the shop, so think of who you know in Bakersfield that drives a black cherokee.  Not sure who they are or what they were doing, but it would be nice to find out what they were doing around the shop.  For those of you who don't know, our shop program is sponsered by our church, Hillcrest SDA Church in Bakersfield, and the shop is on the school grounds.  It's gated and locked.  Please keep an eye out and keep me posted if you hear of anything.

Edwin

i have a feeling we're going to find out who it is.  bakersfields wheeling community is pretty tightly knitted, and being the manager of the club, I know all the managers of the the other clubs in town, as well as most of the members.  This really sucks!  I hope at least that there isn't too much missing.  It has taken years and years of hard work and dedicatation for us to get all the equiptment we have.

Sorry to hear the bad news man. I will keep my eyes open for people selling those items. If I where you I would have all the group members asking around and checking Craigslist religiously for the next couple months.

thanks.  yea, i just sent out a text to close to 50 people i know in bakersfield that are in clubs there.  i also put up two posts on craigslist, one under auto parts and one under tools.  the thing that bugs me the most is i know for a fact it was someone who has been in the shop before on one of our shop nights and knew what was in there.  i just can't think of anyone coward enough and scum enough to break in and steal everything.  i'm keeping my fingers crossed we find out who it is.

welder was a hobart 110v. think it was model 140.  we just got it too about a year ago.  not sure on the brand of the tubing bender or plasma.  we still have the box for the plasma with a serial number on it.  i'll post up details when i get them.

Bender was most likely a JD2 model 3 with stand. Not too sure about he plasma but it was a 220v.

Hope that tip is a good one superyota.  I'll keep an eye out here too in fresno and craigslist.  People like that piss me off.  If it's not yours, don't take it.  I don't have a ton of money, but I don't take things.  I work hard to pay my bills, and I try to work a deal with people, something I can provide them for something they can provide me.  Bartering, was the word I was trying to explain. When a guy broke in to my car, I got lucky and caught him breaking in, I beat him down, then called the cops.  I'll let everyone I know to keep an eye out as well.

thanks!

the thing that bothers me the most is that our shop program is set up as a way to reach out into the community.  it's all free.  we don't charge people to use tools or equiptment.  we invite the people to come in and work on their rigs.  And someone taking something that first of all wasn't theirs for the taking, and second taking something that was set up to help people out who might not have the tools and equiptment.  Selfishness.  it's really sad.

That is really cool that your church has that shop.  When it is all free for people to go work there, then they take the tools they can use for free?  What a bunch of morons.  I can't wait to hear these guys get caught.  I'll check jeep sights to see if anyone is building a jeep near Bakersfield.

i still can't believe they got EVERYTHING.  there is 0 left in the shop.  they left a few hand tools here and there where they unbolted the tubing bender from the ground, but they cleaned us out.   I'm really hoping to hear some good news today about the search last night.  hopefully something turned up.

My cousins car got broken in to last week, and they stole some things out of it, luckily they could not start the car, but he had left his wallet in there, and yesterday the police called and told him they pulled over a guy and he tried to use his license as I.D.  I hope they find the guys who broke in to the shop.

i got a call from the detective on the case.  not sounding too promising.  i think they have their hands full with things like shootings, stabbings, etc.  he said they had the info i passed along and they were going to look into it.  but they have been saying that since last week.

yes you are on the back of there list,
sometimes these things have to be handeled different.

now if you call them and say "I know where a chop shop is at"
then they will go there and ask the property owner if they can search without a warrent.
if they say no then they will get a warrent on probable cause.

get someone to go check it out
