Which HIGH TORQUE SERVO do you run ?
« on: Nov 29, 2011, 02:22:48 PM »
I'm on my second "HIGH TORQUE STEERING SERVO" ,they were both metal gear servos. The ones I have didn't break they just gave up the ghost.  I know I'm going to hear some $hit for this but, My crawler is a slammed, cut and beat up  :stopit: EXCEED MAXSTONE 8 crawler. The tire's on this pregnant dog" are huge (7.25"tall x3" wide)with cut foam, so I need a servo that can take some abuse. Any help would be appreciated.

Futaba S9157.. Titanium gears, it's installed on my XR10. Lots of power and torque and it's really quiet. Little on the pricey side but worth every penny

The hitec 7980 is a little wider than most but will do 600+ oz. of torque @ 7.4v

Hitec 7950th and Hobbico CS-170, both are great. Both are on 5lb. cars. 7950th's power @ 7.5v is real nice, but you can't beat 333oz. of torque, quickness, and price of the CS-170. If you don't comp that's the one to get for1/10 scale 5.5lbs or less car.

I built my Axial AX10 when they first came out, and am running the el cheapo Tower Pro MG995 with a 6-volt voltage clamp (two mounted in parallel for more amperage) and a heat sink atop the servo. The high voltage made a HIGE difference!! Much higher speed and massssssive power. It does take a lot of juice and cuts down on the run time by a noticeable amount. So I have a switch that I can disable the clamps and run normal voltage if needed / for comparison purposes.

The servo has lasted a long time and although I haven't ran the buggy since MCR6 I believe, I had a good year of overpowering it without any trouble and it still works.

I'll have to post some pics of what I did when I get back to Fresno next week!

G'night
