I picked up a 92 extended cab.  Paid 100 bucks and a portable table saw for it.

It was missing a lot of wierd stuff (people had pulled mic. parts off it for a few years)
and came with a ton of misc. stuff (like an extra motor in the back, 3 radiators, mixed matched interior, etc.)

Anyways.  I had a 83 truck that I kinda built and thought I'd combine the two trucks into one.

83 donor truck
Here is a trial picture of the good ol 83.
I had it set up for super nice ride and flex.
I ran 63" chevy rears, f-150 57" rears up front, high steer, 4:88 3rds (welded rear, ausie in front) and 34" worn and abused Swamper TSL's

It rode GREAT! but the holes in the floor boards let too much of the below zero winter air in to the cab and I got tired of wearing all my winter gear to keep warm.  So the Morphing of the two trucks began....

Plans for the 92
The plans for the 92 are to build a truck that would be like 3rd world in reliablilty- the stuff that got the landcruisers famous- minimal simple and readily available parts on it, and the minimul amount of stuff to break and go wrong- build a super reliable truck that will have minimal maintenance required.

Also:
Not a ton of lift (overall goal is 3")
Super nice ride (like the 83's, you know, the kinda ride that makes people say, "this isn't a toyota is it?")
SAS, gears and traction from the 83,
and, oh, yes, sorry all you EFI freaks, but the carbed 22r

Will keep you posted....

Decided to try the f-150's in the rear of the 92.  Built a hanger for the front, torched off the old stock, welded the new one up (forward of the stock hanger) and bolted them in with 6" shackles.
The thing I really was stoked about was the 3rd gen rear shackle hanger didn't need to be relocated to fit the f-150's.

the stock 51" rear spring is below, the f-150 is on top.  I dropped the bottom f-150 leaf and added a few toyota rear leaves to the pack and have ditched the overload spring.  It may be to stiff of a ride, will have to find out and tune as needed.

The first gen photo is kinda deceiving....
The chevy springs are actually negative arched with the overload leaf.   It was kinda a rolly ride home down that road with all that weight on the truck.  And people say you can't put a cord of wood on a toyota :ha_ha:

This way is supposed to help combat axle wrap, but I don't think I'll have too much problem with 1/2 ton truck springs anyhow.  The chevy's gave me some, nothing bad, I don't think the f-150's will be bad, they are really arched too, will have to find out I guess

Honestly,
I think I wish I kept the chevy's, they rode SOOOO nice, but I can't speak yet, haven't driven the truck with the f-150's.

Guys say the chevy's get hung up on stuff, I never had a problem with them.  What is funny is I always read about "chevy's sticking out too far out back" as a complaint about them.  These folks liked the f-150's for that reason.  What is ironic is that from the spring eye bolt to the back of the spring is the IDENTICAL measurement with the f-150's/ chevy's.   It is the front of the chevy spring that is longer.

Anyhow, the main reason I kept the f-150's was because I was up in the air about the choice, had both springs, decided to see which set sold first on craigslist, and would use the remaining.  The chevy's sold in a week.
