dovetailed 1st gen,**new pics**
« on: Jan 03, 2011, 07:50:15 PM »
my build, well its almost done.....or are they ever.i started off with a honcho kit and added a few things,i'll try and get it all right.start off with a jr 87

ds8711 digital servo, and ordered a set of vanquish products hysteer arms, mounted to clockable c-hubs.mounted my servo to frame and ran my own cross-over hy steer set up.mounted all this to a set of aluminum axles, and filled em with hd lockers,hd gear set,and integy wideners.ordered up a set of aluminum shock towers and frame crossmembers up front, still waiten on all the rear stuff.mounted up some dual rate 100 mm shocks at all 4 corners.put on some junfac drivelines, which i liked better because the are similar to mip's,but skinnier.kept the 3 link set up on front, but streched it a lil' bit.streched the rear also and i got a 12.25 in wheel base.i like this set up for break over angles and hill climbs.in the tranny i added full metal gearing, which consist of robinson raceing idler gear, and a one piece outdrive gear.i also added a alum  hot raceing 88 tooth spurgear.[still waiting on alum tranny housing also],and to add a lil' bling to the undercarriage,an alum skid plate.out back i mounted a 4 link truss, and same gear/locker combo as front.added a straight axle kit,and various "scale"items.for electronics i run a spectrum dx3 2.4 gig radio/reciever.i got a sidewinder speed control, added a castle creations bec,and to power all this is a holmeshobby crawlmaster outrunner motor.i chose this motor because of  its incredible torque and decent wheelspeed, not to mention the cool factor of the outside of the motor spinning instead of the inside!as far as rolling stock goes,i normally ran rovers, but just purchased a set of swampers, and the apsolutly impressed me as far as a really scale tire, and grip!i would recomend them to everyone.these are wrapped around rc4wd 'rockstars'with the beadlock rings reversed fr to rear.any help or ? about my set up,feel free to ask.this may not be the 'right' way or common way,but it is my way.it seems to crawl great, and i have no complaints.any ideas ....feel free to chip in.sometimes you dont notice some things that others do...thanks for your time...happy happy wheelin'

That thing is sick. I want to build a Hilux once I get my Honcho kit. Very nice work. Was it hard to do the dove job? What did you use to glue it back together?

wasnt too hard...hard part was cutting up a 100 dollar body.i bought it a while ago,and bought almost all pieces of it instead of just cab, bed, and window.but i just cut along hood line, and came in bout a half inch, and walah!used a cig lighter to heat it up and bend it in,and used fiberglass to hold it all together.wish i could download all my pics...but they are too large?anyhow, once you start, its pretty easy.
