General has a new mud tire
« on: May 23, 2010, 04:03:31 PM »
And I like it  :eyebrow:  I'm wondering how tough and flexible the sidewalls will be, how much they'll weigh, how expensive they'll be, and how well they'll really work.  Petersons did a test and speaks highly of them, but I always take what magazines say with a grain of salt.

Definitely a different style of tread design there!  Looks crazy!  I hope it turns out to be an awesome tire and they release it in a damn 37X12.50 15 !

I read about them in Four Wheeler and they did not speak highly of their winter/wet weather abilities. Thats a must for me.

I don't mean this in a rude way, but get over it.  I highly doubt anybody is going to offer a new tire in 37x12.50-15.  If you want to run 37s you're pretty much going to have to go up to 17" wheels.  It's just how the industry is going since trucks are coming with bigger brakes, necessitating bigger wheels.  It sucks but it's the natural progression  :therethere:

I came across an article when I first looked into these a month or so back, seems like it was written by them.  IIRC, they were testing the comp tire since the dot wasn't yet available, and one of their observations was that at maybe several psi there was nearly no sidewall flex.  May be a totally different article we were reading, just wondering if it was perhaps the same one?

pretty much this. Its time to come into the new age guys !

also its pretty much been proven the bigger wheels actually make the tires preform better with less sidewall wash when turning. 15" wheels and big ole bologna skin sidewalls are a thing of the past now

I haven't even seen any come through the shop yet, and will have to ask a dude from another branch who sometimes works at our shop if they've had any go through yet.  I do always tell customers to give us feedback on tires myself or friends are interested in when they come in for a rotation, and will do so if I see any of these go through.

17s suck. it is just a scam, 15s and 16s are enough ... i even like 13s... who cares about how good 17s ride 13-16s ride better to me, the tire companies and gov't and manufactures are just cakes on ice what do they know, did they even ask us if we wanted to switch to a bigger rim no they just did it

Somebody needs a reality check  :shake:  Why have auto manufacturers gone to bigger wheels?  To clear bigger brakes.  It's not a gobment conspiracy, so put the tinfoil hat back in the closet...

x2, I had a integra gsr, and you can not run wheels smaller then a 15 on it due to the calipers hitting the wheel if you tried. I helped a friend upgrade the brakes on his camaro and he was no longer able to run 15s he had to step up to a 17. And newer chevys you have to run a 16 to fit over the brakes up front.

Who cares they are the ones that made them like that, we need and want bigger wheels, so in order to do that lets make the brakes bigger and everything else.

Yup, it has nothing to do with (among other things) the fact that most vehicles seem to get larger, heavier, and sometimes faster with each new model upgrade.

Not to get too far OT, but few things look dumber to me than tiny OEM brakes lurking behind huge aftermarket wheels....  :screwy:

It was a package deal, I included the big wheels with the itty bitty brakes.  :yesnod:

So back on topic... I have a friend running these. He says they are a desert tire, not a mud or winter tire. He runs them on his desert truck.
