Tacoma black box thingy

k can someone plz tell me what this box does and what its propper name is i need to know what its called and what it does so i know if its necissary for running my 3.4 in my truck and if i will need it for smog....

Its your evap canister.  Yes, you will need it to pass any sort of smog test.  Without it, the check engine light will come on, usually with a P0441, P0442, and P0446 evap system malfunction codes.

they're somewhat year specific...you should be able to get one at any wrecking yard.  What year do you need? I work for Toyota and if you give me the  year I can have the parts guys look up the specific part number for the year you need.

that would be cool.. its a 97 3.4 with a five spd...4x4 no wrecking yards around here have nething as new as tacoma... i sorta live in a hole.

Dude- a new one of those charcoal canister assy's is really expensive.  Really Really expensive.  Better scrounge your local junkyards.

Pretty much any box from a 3.4 Taco/4Runner/T100/early Tundra should work.  Just be sure the VSV's have the right plugs to fit your harness.
