Any truck/ 4-Runner seats up through the 3rd gen 4-Runner and the 1st gen Tacoma's will work, and should be a direct bolt-in.  @nd gen Runner seats will also work in for the rear seat w. some modifications.  Other seats that will work for the front seats w/ little to no modification are Supra, MR2, Celica, Camry, or other Toyota seats pre('00).  Honda Civic, Accord, Prelude seats from the '90's and early 2000's will also work.  You can also pull the old mounts off and weld them to new seats and then it is a direct bolt-in process.  If you are over 5'8 you will want to avoid sedan seats, they tend to be thicker seats.  The set of 2000 Accord seats I installed in an '85 X-cab I restored reduced the headroom a lot, fortunately the buyer of the truck was short and found them to be perfect.

I have some seats out of a '89 supra in my '85 extra cab and they are super comfy.  The driver's seat is power and is 12 way adjustable.  You just have to cut the brackets off of the seat rails and weld them back on in a different spot to get them to fit.

What about the rear seat?  I was wanting to get a better rear seat for my 87 4runner and was wondering the same thing in regards to whether 2nd and 3rd gen seats would fit and function as intended (fold forward and down).

A buddy bought an '86 Runner that had 2nd gen Runner front and rear seats installed.  I have never taken that close of look at them to see what it took took get them to fit.  I doubt it is a direct bolt-in, however with the the first 3 gens of Runners being basically the same size, it shouldn't take much work.

Front driver's side seat from a '95 4Runner bolted into my '88 4Runner without any modification. I did not replace the passenger seat, but have read that to keep the forward release mechanism when replacing a 1st generation seat with a seat from a '90-95 4Runner you have to swap the bottom rails.
