Who sells Tire Carrier Hinge Kits ?
« on: Feb 09, 2010, 09:51:05 AM »
I've been looking around for a spindle hinge kit so i can fab my rear tire carrier. The only website i found selling them is AtoZ Fabrication: http://www.atozfabrication.com/store/product.php?productid=16138&cat=274&page=1
AtoZ Fab wants $45.00

So if anyone has any info to who else sells them could you please leave some feedback. Thank You

Heres a pic so you know what im talking about:

I know rockstomper sells them and tacorunner on this board i believe used his. Also i think polyperformance and ballistic fabrication sell them. I would buy the best one you can afford since i have heard alot are junk and dont last over time. :twocents:

I've got a neighboor that has that same small one on a K5 Blazer, it holds a 38" tire. It broke two weeks ago as he was mudding. Dont buy the little 3000lbs version unless you build extra attachment points like I did. Even then I purchased the bigger 7000lb one.

I built my own using spring bushings and 1-1/4 pipe. May not be as smooth as a bearing kit (which I also started to make, but gave up after a while). So far it's been working well for a year and a trip across the 'con. Don't have any pictures handy, but I'll see if I can post some another time.

Use a spindle, best thing ever it rides on the bearings and will never break.

check poly performance.  i've done a few bumpers for buddies and used their spindle.  works great.

If you have any local trailer supply shops... I live in a HEAVY agricultural area and the local metal supply guy has tons of the components, I can go all the way up to a 2" solid center spindle with timken bearings, and get all the 1x4" or 2x4" ect. swing arm steel in one place!  So I'd search out any local non franchised, stand alone (non-tractor supply type) trailer fab shops...
