My truck got stolen....
« on: Nov 18, 2004, 03:54:55 PM »
Here's a picture of it, 1988 Toyota PU.

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shamb55/detail?.dir=5309&.dnm=eacd.jpg&.src=ph

I walk out this morning to go to school to find that my truck is GONE! So im looking around thinking "what the!! THE WHOLE TRUCK IS GONE?!" Walking back inside TRYING my hardest not to get extremely furious i call the police and make a report. Go to my insurance to find out that i have NO THEFT coverage so im total SOL here. Im gonna get a big fat NOTHING, i have no way of getting to work now and have no clue what im going to do next. I gotta figure out my options. This truck was stolen in Northern California, Marysville to be exact between 8:30 PM last night and 10:00am this morning. If ANYONE see's this truck please contact the police ASAP!!!

Btw it has a yellow california 4wd assosiation sticker on the front driverside fender, rollbar with 2 KC lights (one of the covers is missing) and the front driverside marker light is missing. If anyone has any information i would GREATLY appriciate it.... i've said it once and i'll say it again, I F*CKING HATE THEIVES! I feel like i could kill a theif and not think anything of it, they're worthless trash that need to be shot for stealing people's hard earned possessions.
If any of you have any IDEA's for theft-proofing your trucks PLEASE post up!! I DO NOT want my 82' to get stolen or i'll go off the freakin wall! First thing i did today was buy the biggest beefest chain i could and wrapped it around the axles about 4 times along with the biggest pad-lock i could find. It is connected to another vehicle in the garage (the trucks outside). The steering wheel is also out, so im trying to do anything and everything i can to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I hope your all having a better day then i am...

Ok i'm done, thank you

Sorry to hear about your loss.  As for theft proofing, one thing I can think of is that I have seen some vehicles come into the shop that have a secondary start switch.  What I mean is that you can try to start it normally, but nothing will happen.  But say, hold the light switch to high beam while trying to start and it will start.  I figure you could tap into an existing switch and run it to a relay that is inline to the ignition terminal on the starter.  Not theft proof but it does require them to take some time.

That really sucks,:sad2: I'll keep an eye out around Oroville & Paradise for it. There has been car theft ring working that has been dumping the stripped out cars up by Brownsville somewhere. At least that's what I've heard.
Good Luck.

Keepin an eye out in Sacramento.
Plate number?

Dunno what type of wheels you have, but run a chain with padlock through a hole on your rim, then go across to the other rim.  Dunno how long of a chain, but wrap it around the axle a couple times.

My grandpa did that and someone tried to steal his jeep.  Guy is in jail, and my grandpa got a great laugh out of catching him

Dude Im sorry to hear that it sucks Id kick the guys right on the nats!!!  What I have done to make swamper less stealable is put a kill switch on it..it shuts off the gasoline so no power and I hear that with the older trucks you could put the 4x4 in gear and if they try and steal it thell grind the gears out and not be able to move it...better than losing all of if so good luck man :therethere:

You have a set of eyes in Redding too.  They catch TONS of people for runnin drugs through here on I-5 so they are pretty observant.  If you can give more info I can let some cop friends know and hopefully they'll help to pass it along.  Good luck,  Nate

The coolest thing that i saw which i thought would be awesome is this little clamp thing that you put around ure ebrake, it clamps over the shaft in between the handle and the dash, then it padlocks at the bottom  it is a badass idea!

That sucks badly.  What i did spliced into a wire going to my coil and put a switch in the cab.  You turn the switch off and the truck will turn over but will not start.  I have since disconected it becasue i put it in the wrong place and kept hitting it while wheeling.  hide the switch though, thieves will look over and under anything.

damn man, unbelievable. frick'n low life jackasses.

I'll keep my eyes open around Fresno, damn that sucks :maddest:

My '81 has a hidden switch for the clutch start cancel control (truck thinks the clutch is never pressed unless the switch is switched) and I've got a hidden fuel cut off switch coming from the open circuit relay. I also use "The Club" regularly, and if Im :nerv: about it I can pull my efi fuse or something, I dont care how obvious or easy it is to notice that the fuse it missing, but its just something that's gonna take up more time for the theif and someone might see him soon and call the cops.

Sometimes on my MR2, I would unplug my distributor if I was going into a movie or something. My MR2's dissy is behind the engine and kind'a out of sight (since its RWD) and I could just tuck the wire behind the dissy and it looks like its plugged in. Then it will crank normally, it just wont ever start. So for any one trouble shooting as to why its not starting up, they've got a huge list of possible problems and an unplugged distributor isnt at the top of that list. If the theif wanted to he could check for fuel and spark, then notice that its not getting any spark, then he would check out the wires, ignitor, fuses, and the dist........hey whatever I am jus rambling here yadda yadda yadda MAN THEY STOLE YOUR RIG! WTF DUDE? SERIOUSLY.

At least it's not your wheeling rig, but its still the same crime. :(

Oh yeah, my MR2's starter signal wire had a plug between the chassis harness and the engine harness, and it was down below the transaxle so it was hard to see. I could eaisly unplug that and it would never start unless you shorted the two contact at the starter, which on my MR2 (lowered) is impossible. But my 3RZ's starter wire is uninterupted so I dont have that option...

i havea friend that runs truck over in that area i asked him to pass it on to all the truckers he knows and so on and for the most part they are all good guys and gals. if they see they may perform a little street justice but you will get your truck back. also as far as theft pervention my fater in law is an auto theft investigator and he said, " criminals are looking for the easy gain. so the harder it is to take the less likely they will even try." first he said an alarm (i know most are cheesey but it dose draw unwanted attention.), the club or brake stopper, a kill switch, and then i personally take my coil wire in where ever i am going. i dont know if this helps at all but this is what a person who deals with it all day long told me to do. again i am sorry to hear about your loss. next time i get to calli   are on me.

I took the steering wheel completely out and also pulled out the coil wire. I think im giong to go buy a relay switch that cuts off the ignition now.  I'll make sure it doesnt start at all, im also worried about it being towed away so i'm going to be strapping it to anything and everything i can find.

Didn't hardly get any sleep last night, just thinking about all this stuff is kinda stressful.

I dont have a boot over my front t-case, i was wondering if i just got a piece of like 1/8" plate and cut it to fit exactly down into the slot with a hole that will basically hold the t-case into neutral. on the bottom of the plate as you drop it down there would be two 1"x1" pieces of like 1/8" or something with two holes drilled in it with a bar going across and a padlock so it cant be pulled up out of there without getting under the truck and cutting the padlock (which would take more time)  and also it couldnt be pulled up because i'd do the same up top with padlock and bar.

It would be cheap, only thing i'd have to buy is the padlocks because i have the scraps laying around.

Any idea's on running something threw the wheel so it cant turn?

This is an idea from a guy that responded to your stolen truck post on WEBILT's BB

I have big chain links welded to my shifters so that when I park the truck, I put my middle case in low range and the trans in reverse and lock the shifters together with a huge pad lock. The shifters cant be moved forward or back when locked together! If some freakin' idiot tries to steal my truck again, they'll be driving really slow in reverse only!

Shamb, that may be a good idea with the shifter, but the trans and tcase have quite a bit of enershia if you know what I mean, and im sure if someone tried hardenough they could just rip it right through the floorboard.

You know a more simple approach to that would be remove your shift knob and replace it with a very large nut, like 3" diameter nut, or some really strong washer, and then take a bearing splitter and clamp the bearing splitter onto your shift handle just below the nut.

Check my attached image. You get it? Now they would have to rip the entire bearing splitter outta the cab in order to get it. And Ive seen some huge bearing splitters, thats a lot of surface area.

But if they know what they are doing, they could just pull the c-clip out of the shifter base and then take the case :ack:
