Toyota 3.0 head gasket recall
« on: Dec 07, 2009, 07:06:03 AM »
I know there is already a thread regarding the topic but just wanted folks to know that the recall is still valid. Took my 90 4x4 pickup down to Hanlees Toyota in Davis. Told them my head gasket was already blown. They looked up my VIN and sure enough, hasn't been factory changed. They did the work in about two days. Not too happy with the truck when I got it back(exhaust leak), but hey, they did all the hard work for me. Cost me $23 out the door because I had them change the spark plugs. They also did the steering relay recall as well. Too bad I'm collecting the parts for my SAS and the steering stuff will be wasted. Forgot to mention I have 200K plus on the motor. Anyway, hope this helps other guys out.

It wasn't a recall. It was a Special Service Campaign. A formal recall would have hurt their numbers too much. I believe they stop doing the service in 2004 but am not positive. Why don't you just call the dealership and ask them? Maybe if you ask nicely they will fix it for free. :eyebrow:

Why would he call them?  They already fixed his truck, he was just informing people that toyota was still honoring it.

It was a super simple transaction. They did try to convince me to have them fix other things... $120 for fan belts?? Come on now!

When I had my 94' 4Runner about 10 years ago, the head gasket let go. My buddy told me about the recall and I contacted the Toyota dealership. They replaced the head gasket for free, but wanted to surface the head and put new valve seals in it for some reason and wanted something astronomical like $3k for the work. I said F' that and so I passed on the head work. A year later the 3 slow was running on 5 cylinders and I traded it in for a WRX.

Nice, they looked at me like I was insane two years ago.  I insisted that it was a recall (but I wasnt sure) and said to call Toyota, they gave me a 1-800 # and said if they approve it they will do it.  So I rush home all proud of myself and dial up the 800 # and get the sales dept at the dealership I just left.  HaHa on me,A holes.

My 94 hs about 160 m on it and has had them done twice.... cost me 28 hun to have repaired the second time. And now the check engine light comes and goes as it pleases. like the truck to much to get rid of it.

Recalls are politically incorrect, they are now called campaigns, please refrain from using the word recall it paints the manufactures in a bad light.
