22re timing and tps adjustment
« on: Nov 03, 2009, 06:50:33 AM »
Ok so I have a 1985 4runner. I have the manual and it says to time the runner 5* btdc. But from looking around here there are some differnt thoughts on that. I don't know if it mattters but I am at 320 ft above sea level. this is what I have gotten

Connect a timing light to the engine.
Start the engine and let it idle.
(22R) Disconnect the vacuum hose from the distributor sub-diaphragm and plug the hose end.
(22R-E, 22R-TE)
Short terminal T and E1 of the check connector. check the ignition timing.
Ignition timing:
22R 0°TDC @ Max. 950 rpm.
22R-E, 22R-TE 5°BTDC @ idle.
If necessary, loosen the distributor bolt and turn the distributor to align the marks. Recheck the timing after tighting the distributor bolt.
(22R)
reconnect the vacuum hose to the distributor sub-diaphragm.
(22R-E, 22R-TE)
Unshort the check connector.
Check that ignition timing advances to 10°- 14°BTDC .

now the questions. Where do I find the T and E1 terminals. also how do I adjust the TPS? any help would be great.

Ok so I pulled teh trouble codes. It read 13- Knock CPU faulty. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS. Ok I kinda got it timed. any ideas why I can't seem to get it on. I can get it to 0* and then it stops or i move it one tooth and I can only get it to 14* any ideas. I will try to get the TPS adjusted and I will let you know how it works out. Thank you volcom for the help.
