Just use a couple c clamps to pinch the springs together, undo your ubolts, pull the centerpin, and take the broken one to napa. They will find you a match.

its recomended to buy new u bolts, usually, i never do and i have never had a problem.....  and yes every good parts house should have a center pin, but if they dont you will have to grind the head of a bolt down to a circle, just make sure it fits snugly...

Sounds like you have an issue with the u-bolts.  I say spend a few dollars and get new u-bolts and go from there.  Just flexing shouldn't allow the shim to come loose and shear the center pin.  Sounds like a u-bolt got loose just enough to allow things to move around.  Another thing is to clean up all the mating surfaces of rust or debris.

Something I just thought, was how long is the head on the center pin.  It should be long enough to go through the shim and reach into the hole in the perch/pad.  If it's not long enough it may allow the leaf spring and shim to walk on the perch/pad.  I used to see this alot on backyard lift kits with homemade lift blocks.
