How does she like the 40D? I want to try other cameras. I like my Nikon D60 but a friend of mine who does professional photography swears by Canon. Plus, you use Canon. So, what's your take?

We both love the 40, wish we had 2 of them. Closest thing to film quality I've seen yet, but I haven't looked at anything newer yet. 3 months after you buy something ther is a better one ya know.

Happens to be one of my favorite photos

Canon PowerShot S3 IS with 58mm wide angle lens, 1/800 sec, F/4 @ 7mm. Would have looked better with a lower F-stop (more would be in focus). Taken at the Super Target in Merced on the way to the TLCA Rubithon event, June 18th, 2009

Few more.  You can see the clarity is definately better in some than others.

question for the photo guys.. im a graphic design major and really want a nice entry-level digital camera.  Obviously adjustable aperture and shutter speed are a must, id like something with good quality, etc. but being a college student i cant see spending more than about $300, so a middle-of-the-road type camera is in order.  Any ideas of some good cameras that fall into this category?

One of the ones I took this weekend.

25 second exposure taken at 11:15PM... All moonlight on the trucks. Little out of focus but still cool. Taken with a Canon Rebel XS, 18-55mm lens (that sucks IMO)

I got a lot of other photos that I like but Im too lazy to search and post. These arent hard to take photos nor are they that great, I just think they are cool.

Ill get some better shots of stuff soon. I wanna take one on the side of the road like TrackVino did at night. Badass shot.

EDIT: Heres a couple more

Maybe look into a Nikon D40. I don't know Canon or Pentax to well so maybe another can chime in.

So, here's my lineup of camera's, that are in my possession.

--film--
1.  one really old fold out kodak camera
2.  JCPenney TLS Auto 500 with fixed lens.  With 2 screw on lenses, tele and wide.  This camera was made by Mamiya.    I learned on this and still takes really good film pics.
3.  1 XGA & 1 XG1 Minolta manual bodies with, 80-200mm tele, 18-28mm fish eye, 2 50mm's
4.  Nikon N50 with 35-80
5.  Pentax ZX-50 with 28-80mm
--digital--
6.  Nikon Coolpix 4800ED  (one awesome point and shoot)
7.  Nikon D70 with 70-300 and 18-70  (I really want a 18-200mm lens, but $700 is out of reach)

My favorite is the D70 even though there is a few little headaches that I have to live with, but FREE is something I can live with.

This was taken with telephoto across a canyon.

I got alot more I just took, but they aren't on my computer.  I'm waiting to get a disc of them.  I was at our local Outdoor School program for the last 2 weeks taking all sorts of pics.  I can only hope that I get to the level of photography that Dave and Kyle is at.  (Trackvino & Minisimp)  I actually look up to them for inspiration in taking pictures.

My mom has the Nikon D300 and that is one awesome camera.  I know alot of people that either love Canon and hate Nikon, or they hate Canon and love Nikon.  Twisted on Timbercrawler  http://www.jacobcarroll.com/  is setup with Canon, but admits that Nikon has better lenses, and wishes he had the $ to go full Nikon.
