anyone know how to quiet down a rod knock?
« on: Sep 14, 2009, 09:26:13 PM »
well, my new crap motor has a knock at cold start and sounds like a diesel .  shoulda just put the head on my old block. i would been better off.

at least i know what I'm doing now and could whip through a lowere end build pretty quick!

if i had the money to do it that is.
i think it will hold together for a long time, but it is so annoying, I'm running 20-50 and dumped in motor honey to thicken up the oil a bit.
it kinda not really helped.
the damn thing runs so good though!  i think I'm gonna get a full kit from enginbuilder, pistons and all.  ill re use the oil and water pump

what do you guys think about his pistons?

if you dont want to spend $ and think it will run a while try turning up the radio real loud or drive with earplugs while humming or saying lalala

Yeah, just wait till it goes through the side of the block, then there won't be making any more noise.

actually there would lol. i just had my 4th cyl rod put two holes in the side of the block. it still ran amazingly enough and you could sorta hear the rod loose in there. i'd definetly rebuild the bottom end. i know i should've after hydrolocking twice and getting water in the oil the second time and driving for probly ten miles to get home. mine didn't even knock before it blew.
lets not and say we did.

well, the rod berings are new clevite 77  , i dont see how changing them will do any good?  i need to resize the rod to fix anything

the crank was turned 20 under and i did the pin bushings, but i never sized the big end of the rods. dumbass move
the berings did plastiguage ok tough!
if any of you rebuild a motor, chuck the pistons, resize the rods, bore 1 size larger and balance everything.
i know you can do alot less but look what happend when i went 80%
