New MTRs with Kevlar
« on: May 01, 2009, 12:14:29 PM »
So anyone see these new MTRs yet? I am not sure I like them, at all. Can't really comment though until we here some feedback on how they do offroad. If anyone tries these let us know what you think.

The Kevlar is a marketing ploy     Unless you plan on getting your tire shot at  . As far as pucture resistance  The kevlar is not really going to do much .   A knife will go right through a bullet proof vest  made a kevlar

I haven't heard of anyone running them yet, i like the looks of the mtr without kevlar more than that.

But if it were to perform a lot better then that is what will sell them.

They appear to be made more for rain and snow than rocks, but for a LOT of people, this would be ideal.  Off-road capable but also DD friendly.

The real question is what do they cost?

they are going this direction to compete with the bfg baja ktr because of durability. in rock crawling or on a toy its not going to make a difference but on a trophy truck it is the difference between 80 miles on the rear tires and 150 before the tread separates from the sidewall. I'm glad they are finally making a com-perable product to the ktr because allot of racers were forced to go to bfg to be competitive but at a higher price which is why racers have used maxxis, general, Yokohama and others in the past 3 years because bfg has a hard sponsorship program

Everything I've read says they have designed this tire in the areas that the old MTR was lacking.  Mud!!!  I like the looks of the old one better, but only time will tell.  I hate it when they change a solid proven design, for something new.

I think That when they go from this new design to another in the future everyone will be disappointed just the same... i just wish that they sold one that left more tread for me to groove to my liking and to mudders/rockcrawlers the same i do have to say that bfg and super swappers give the consumer more room to make the tire to their needs no matter the terrain ... but i really like these and they may just be a buy for my Toyota

I read in "OffRoadAdventures" (4wheelparts mag.) that they like how they perform. I want to hear from a real work "rock crawler"

I would be really disappointed if the old MTRs disappear, they are a great tire.

Same here. That is where I first discovered them. I would rather hear from some real world testing other than magazine testing, of course a mag isnt going to trash talk them, especially one made by a store that sells these tires.....

He only mentions how well they do in dry rock terrain....... also he states it was only his second time running them. I am more interested in long term testing as opposed to quick, initial reaction type information.

I want to know what these tires are capable of dry, wet, rocks, sand, snow, ice, etc.

you chose your tire and get a sponsorship....  most tire "sponsors" will give you the tires you want if you send them a schedule of races or events and put there name on your truck ..others you give them your portfolio and then they allow you to buy a tire that isn't available to the public and offer you pit support or something else as the sponsorship.. i also know that there is no such thing as an endless supply so I'm sure he knows what hes saying

This and also most of the time they still have to buy their tires as like with the BFG program  everyone still has to buy their krawlers though they get them at a  reduced price.
