So at your rate, the 2005 2TR should be about a $3,000 swap in the fall of 2009.

I bought my 1995 T100 3RZ for $350 (everything complete) in July of 2004. The following spring we purchased 3 other 3RZ-FEs for around $650-$700 each (everything complete).

It would be cool to find a 2TR-FE for about a grand. You know these swaps are gonna start happening soon! Order order! Bow Down

maybe yall could pioneer this??? Motor mounts and other swap parts Cheesy

At this point the 3RZ is strong enough that it really doesn't make any sence to go from a 3RZ to a 2TR. Toyota will have to make a 4Cyl 3.0 for me to change mine. And even then I may not, unless they can gain some serious power. Like, say another 40 ft lbs and 30hp.

I agree. BUT, the market will be there for the swap. I'm just curious who is going to cash in on it. If there was more knowledge out there about the swap, and more engines readily available, many would be doing it just b/c of the newness and the extra power. It's just not cost effective right now.

I would (and if I have the money, "will") consider "upgrading" from a 3RZ to a 2RT.

I would be interested in the better fuel economy and faaaaaar wider power band thanks to VVTi.

My Two Cents

Yes, but you are assuming the power band is wider.   Have you seen a dyno yet?

Ohh I don't assume. I've seen Dyno pulls from other VVTi vs. non-VVTi Toyota engines

EDIT: I thought for sure I had dyno shots of a 20-valve 4A-GE silver top (non-VVT) vs. a black top (VVT) but I can't seem to find any good pics.

Here is an example from a V8, which I'd prefer not to use as reference, but alas its all I could find. Notice how the fuel mapping is FAAAAR more early on and still holds out the the bitter end. I understand at 80-100% of the RPM range the torque of the VVT may be less than that without VVT, but I don't demand torque at 5,700 RPM in my Rock Crawler but rather at 1,000-3,000 where the 3RZ is lacking in my opinion:

I don't mean that the illustrations are poor. I mean it's not a good comparison for the topic. It's poor in that it fails to back up or give validity to the argument.

TacoRunner is right.. If I can find a better comparison, I'll post up.

Until then, I cannot prove that the VVT-i provides a wider power band until we get some dyno proof Thumbs Up
