I found an A340F with transfercase out of a 99 Runner with the 3.4. What will I need to put it in my 86 Runner with the A340H. What changes will need to be made to the bellhousing, torque converter, crossmember, wiring, transfercase(wrong side output), drivelines, and shifters(console)?

The '99 trans will bolt right in Thumbs Up Just use your 22R auto bellhousing and the 3.4 torque converter.

You will need to use your oil pan and the solenoid wiring from your old trans also. I also used the complete auto center consol that has a cloth boot for the t-case handle from a 95 and newer truck.
By using my 3.4 x 4tc adapter plate, the gear driven t-case will bolt right up.

The bad news is that the '95 and newer autos use a 4 prong magnitic pick up ring, whereas the older trucks use a single dime size permanent magnet. This required additional machine work to install the early magnet and pickup in the later housing.

The cross member will ned to be relocated 3/4" rearward.

Marlin - there a was write up over on 4x4 wire for the swap you did in the 95 4Runner.  http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/autocrawler/

It mentioned that you were considering offering the machined tail housing for the speed sensor and a machined magnetic sensor that will fit properly on the mainshaft.  Is this something you are still considering?

It would certainly help those of with the A340H that want to run dual cases in our dail drivers and would need to do this over a weekend.

Let us know - thanks!!

Cebby,

At the time of that conversion, I orded five 4x4 tail housings and was planning on doing the machine work and supplying them on an exchange basis.
When the housings arrived, they were from 2x4 trucks and I send them back.
Then I found out that a '93-95 T100 3.0 V6 trans would go right in with out any machining.

I have helped a number of customers with tech and would do the machine work if needed. It is not that bad of a job if you have a mill and lathe.

I quoted the machine work at $100.00.

Then I found out that a '93-95 T100 3.0 V6 trans would go right in with out any machining.

Thanks for the reply Marlin!  Are you saying that if I can get a T100 auto tranny from 93-95 to cannibalize, I can do this swap with no machining?  I'm assuming you mean that I can take the tailhousing and other parts from the T100 tranny and put them on the A340F tranny (?)  Or does the T100 come with a A340F tranny in it already?  The method to my madness is to addd dual cases...

I have neither a mill nor a lathe - so $100 sounds reasonable to me.

Because all T100's used a front right drive shaft, it would have the proper oil pan and the 93-95 3.0 V6 uses the dime size magnitic pickup with an unboltable t/case. This means that no maching would be necessary.
You would need to bolt your 22R bellhousing to the T100 trans and use your 86 netural saftey switch and wiring harness because your truck uses the early style plugs.
The T100 trans already has the proper adapter on the back of the transmission housing that has the 9 bolt t/case pattern.

I understood this except the part about the 22R and neutral safety switch.  I thought the neutral safety switch was a manual tranny item.

Allso, you mean the oil pan on the tranny will fit, right?  I have a 3.0 with a A340H tranny currently.  I plan to keep the 3.0 engine.

Thanks Marlin.

I love Marlin Crawler!

I read this thread, and it seems like a good idea, but I'm a little confused. Somewhere around the top, marlin mentions that a 22r bellhousing will bolt up to this V6 auto transmission. Do the auto's have a different bolt pattern or something? I am fairly unfamiliar with the auto trannies, and the idea of a 22r bell housing bolting up to a v6 tranny confused me a little. What am I missing?

I think the part about the bellhousing was directed to the thread author.  Since I have a 3.0, it would bolt right up.

I'm awaiting Marlin King to drop some  more knowledge...
