Update: When Brent first called me I thought maybe someone had stolen several vehicles from this lot. They have quite the inventory.  :o http://www.playtoys.cc/

No, the thieves went after the Runner specifically and drove it right out an access gate maintained by Caltrans on to the 10 FWY. :shake:

It sure makes me think twice about parking my rig in a secure, infra red laser equipped, security camera filled facility along with hot rods and other speciality cars. :headshake:

wow!  sounds kinda fishy though.  almost like it could have been an inside job.  i'd start asking around whereever it is you work at and see if anyone seems suspicious.

he said infra red security equipped.  the only way i see getting something out of a place that has security that good is if you know how to work around it.  that just my  :twocents: though.  who know's?

Here is the story as I know it from Brent. The infra red sensors were triggered and the owner of the lot responded intially (not the Sheriff). When everything appeared to be in order, the owner left. The theory is the thieves waited until the owner left and then cut this access gate lock and drove out. :snare: I doubt it is an inside job due to the nature of this business (specialty cars on consignment) and that it has never happened in the past with much more valuable vehicles on site.  But then again, nothing seems to surprise me nowadays. :dunno:

You are probably right. The rims on it are fairly unique though, a one off design from Stazworks. If you see a set of dual beadlock 17" wheels with a spider web center and "BD" on the outer ring, they came from Brent's rig. :tantrum:

Inside job.
No updates on finding it.

The "double whammy" to Brent was the problem he had with the insurance. It had full coverage with a "cash value" policy. After the theft, AAA had him compile all of his receipts for payment. Three weeks later AAA denied coverage because of a clause in the policy that excluded vehicles placed on consignment for theft.

That SUCKS!  Any chance the consignment place had insurance that would cover it?

No, I guess I should have said "triple whammy." The consignment agreement also stated that the vehicle had to have it's own coverage and that Play Toys had no liability for theft. :sad2:

Moral of the story: After reading the agreement, check with your insurance about coverage before signing it and placing your vehicle with anyone.   :twocents:

Awsome!  Now where is the story!?!  You can't just say "Found it driving in Colton CA. It was taken to Mexico and vin switched, exo & wrap removed.  The wheels gave it away." without telling the whole story!  :yikes:

That's about it. My friend got a call that it was spotted (about 15 miles away from where it was stolen in April 08). He drove to the location, immediately recognized it and called the police. They impounded it, due to the fact it had Baja California plates and the vin numbers were different. My friend called Peps at All Pro etc but the police confirmed it was his when they removed the license plate, the wrap job was still in place. Other than the exo and the wrap, the third rear seat was gone.

Wow dude... that's awesome that it's still in tact. By wrap job, you mean the design on the body... right?
