The rust definately needs to be addressed but it is definately controllable.

OK your kidding right  :headscratch:
we have more rust then that in a week around here. ok maybe 3.
for my frame I used a rust converter then painted it with a 2 components polyurethane bed liner and no more rust.
Oh! and don't put brake fluid on it  :smack: :smack: but it clean a frame real good. :eyebrow:

. I will be trading the axle along with some extra cash to Marlin  as long as I can afford to buy a complete 84-85 axle from Marlin.

you mean that Marlin wont "cut you a deal"?   :smack:

Tuesday,

Hey guys, beers on the house tonight so drink up

I thought I would take it easy and figure out my plans and check over the truck and then pull the engine on Friday or this weekend. I will be gone tomorrow night for my buddies bd party, so I wont be around tomorrow.

Here's a shot after I was able to dig the truck out from the back yard and get it moved around. I tried to start it up again after work, and whatt'a-ya-know, it fired right up. Had a high idle but ran great. I drove it around the yard and let it idle for a while. Kinda weird taking a vehicle with a perfectly good running engine and then removing it. Seems crazy. Im used to pulling out dead or crippled MR2 supercharged engines :joke:

Here Tim examines the engine as Marlin takes a minuet to reflect on all the work he just did to it not to long ago before saying goodbye.

Well as 5pm was rolling around, I was thinking about the 22R, and as you've probabely guessed by now, I just decided to pull it out and get rid of it! My only experience on pulling Toy truck engines was about a month ago when I pulled a 22R-E from a stock 87' 4Runner. That was my first time ever, and it took me about 3.5 hours with the IFS and efi components getting in the way and slowing everything down..

So I figured I could pull a carb engine out, even though Ive never done it before, in a couple of hours. Almost. Took me 2.5 hrs. Included having to go next door to get the engine hoist that was burried behind 6 customer vehicles (at Marlin's automotive garage, not the Crawler business). So I had to get the keys and drive a bunch of cars around.. So all in all it was a really productive evening.

Here's a pic of the goofball behind all this. I know what you're thinking, BigMike really isnt that big at all :shake: ::) ::) :shake_head:

Thanks guys for all the suggestions on the paint vs rust issue. And toyhatsu, lets get these 3RZ's out on the trail and kick some ass!!

I think my truck already has some sort of lift kit installed under it. It doesnt matter to me since its all getting replaced, but Tim here pointed out that it just seems higher than normal.

Tim, btw, conquerored the entire Dusy/Erishm trail with STOCK springs and 32" tires without any body armor at all. He has a welded rear and a trutrack front. Here's a pic of his stock system flexing it out.

Ive decided to just run some 35s and keep it simple for now. So Im thinking 3-4" springs, keep the stock front hanger as I want to keep this truck low, french the rear spring pirches, and run some custom shackles in the rear. I always see guys flexing out, but with very little up travel. So I want to arrange the fenders/body/whatever to maximize the amount of up travel possible. I want to see my tires getting sucked way up into the fenders when Im done.

So anyways, It would be great if I could get the 3RZ test fitted and mounted by the end of this weekend. Then just play around with the wiring, which the MR2 has given me alot of experience with, and get it running ASAP. Then I can start on the axles!

I'll just have to see how much I really get done before I open my month to much more.
See ya!
BigMike

dirtbag,

actually I worked out a deal with Marlin to help shave some :twocents:. I'm giving him both the engine and trans. He says that the engine is a perfect rebuild canidate. If you want it, give him a call. I bet he will let it go for real cheap. I would love to sell it but its no longer mine

Of course I remember ya, you're Carlos's son. Yeah we for sure have gotta both be at the rubi next year. It's gona be soo nice to have our own rigs. Ive been wheeling my dads rig for way to long!

Hey Mike, we all know what you're doing for the drivetrain on this bad boy, but do you have a plan for the body?  Are you going to leave it how it sits and do some trimming, or do you plan on painting it.  If so, what's the color/scheme?
