Her Name is Frank
« on: Apr 18, 2007, 06:36:05 PM »
So I've gotten a few messages from people asking to see pictures of my truck. And 82 HiLux convinced me to start a thread on it. Its definitely a different direction than where you guys are going, so let me know what you think.

First, a little introduction. The name stuck from early days of the build. I had parts from about 10 different trucks within the first month of the build. So my ladyfriend says "You should call it Frank, for Frankenstein." So it stuck. And at some point it evolved into "Her Name Is Frank." And I got a sign cut out for it too.

Okay so a couple specs on the truck. Pretty much everything is rebuilt. Have a 20R with a cam, bigger valves and a Thorley header, 2 1/4" exhaust and Maganflow cat and Muffler. Rebuilt rear axle and driveshaft. Need to find another transmission to rebuild, 1st and reverse are a little rough for my likings. Frame is powdercoated blue, engine bay and dash are painted 2007 Toyota Voodoo blue off the new FJ Cruisers. Has a custom built 3 link, with two rear suspension bars mounted on shackles. And 4 wheel disc brakes. And onto some pictures.

The chassis.

And a before and after picture, roughly 14 months apart.

Let me know what you think.

I parked it next to an 81 on 35s at school today, just waiting on him to send me the picture.
And it goes out to bodywork this weekend.

Actually, I think the name says it all.  "Her name is Frank" makes me think of a woman that is trying to pass herself off as a man.  Personally, I would rather have the original truck and the cash spent on the transformation.

 :yikes:

Having said that, I can respect the quality of the work.

It has been brought to my attention today, 9/21/2017, that this post from more than a decade ago was in poor taste.  I apologize and would refer everyone to post #38 and also this thread were some of the damaged bridges were repaired:

I thought about it. Then I remembered I live in the wonderful state of California.

Its bodydropped 2 inches. I have lowered Saturn seats in it. I just barely fit. :D

I actually expected more comments like his than anything. I wasn't going to post pictures of anything until I got a 4wd. But, I guess its not so much like the Pirate board over here.

Id rather have a 4x4 than a 2x4 because mainly the type of driving style I am into.  I like rocks and mud and hills so I have a 4x4. But the work done on this truck is pretty awesome. Everybody should be able to respect a well built truck or car, unless you are really closed minded.

dude you should save up and get a lexus v8 for it and swap it in. That would be AWESOME. A ton of work though, and not to mention really expensive $$$$

nice truck I like it. It needs a bed though
82 hilux, bobbed, really fast 22r, 2 transfer cases, ARB's, 5.29's, 37" MTR's. Custom everything.

I like to drive on rocks and mud and hills and stuff too. Most of my friends actually have lifted trucks, and I had a Blazer before. Hell, I grew up in a 4WD fab shop. I just happen to like minitrucks too. And I'm looking for another Toyota to build up, with 35s or so. People just seem to want more for a beat 4WD than a beat 2WD. Lol.

And it does need a bed. The bed it came with was junk. The bed I have now is pretty decent, but it needs a lot of work before it will fit. I have to frame out a floor and sides to support the bed because of the way they're made. I'm going to work on the bed after I get it back from bodywork. For now, I'm bagging a Mazda for a customer to build up funds to finish the bed and paint it, and get a 4WD truck.

I'd like too, but I don't want to cut a hole in my hood. I worked hard to keep the stock motor under the hood, dropped the motor and built a new sump style oilpan for it to keep stock oil capacity just low profile. Dropped the aircleaner box, and its still tight. Also like you said $$$. What I'll probably end up doing is swapping to EFI, and getting a 20R EFI head from DOA Racing. I've got all the stuff I need to swap to EFI other than the tank, but I'll probably just use an electric pump on the stock tank.

Thats assuming I buy parts. Lol. If I do thats where I will go, but I make just about everything I use.

The exterior will be all Voodoo Blue like the dash and engine bay. I'm also thinking about doing a small stripe down the side of the truck, following the bodyline that starts in the fender and fades in the door. Have the stripe start otu small in the front and get bigger out back. And at the back start to cut off like on old Mopars. Kind of hard to explain, but I see it well in my head.  The truck is getting painted flat blue before final paint and I'm going to see if I like it then first. Just want something clean and simple that doesnt pull attention from the rest of the truck.

There are more mini trucks in my neck of the woods than 4x4's, couple yotas too

I like the lexus emblem on the grill, nice touch, and want to lift my gas tank up like that as well

I've seen a few of these mini's on the 101 in Santa Rosa. In Ukiah one day at the shell on Talmage.A guy parked the back of this truck under mine.he took some photos of it.i got respect for the labor that goes into one of these, every thing has to dialed, kinda like 4x4,cause if you dont they can be scary to drive..If i ever see you on the freeway I'll try not drive over you..good luck on your build..
I'm not responsable for my own action's.

How much you want for it? I'd like to rebuild it and swap it out. Maybe put a lighter flywheel and a centerforce clutch in it.
