4x4 vw bug????
« on: Jan 13, 2004, 11:06:29 AM »
Hey guys ive got me an idea on a new project me and a buddy are thinking about building.
Tell me what u think?

Take a toyota solid axel frame put in a 22r with 20r head with big cam, put in a 5 speed tranny to stock transfer case.
Cut the frame down about 12 to 20 inches  :_order: and brace it back up alot and put on a stock suspension set up with maby 3 inch springs and stock axels with 4.38 gears in them.
Then adapt a old vw bug body too sit on top of the frame.
Running prob 33's this thing would be unstopable.
u couldent get high centerd becuase there is not very long being the same size as a reg bug.
But will be really light flex good and have tons of power. Light weight and lots of power :smack: thats all i need.

They say the stock bugs can fly im thinking a toyota powerd 4x4 bug could really get some air :driving:    :slap:

Tell me what u think
all info and idea will help greatly
Thanks
Adam

I still have the Offroad issue that featured that bug in it that thing was pretty cool except the big body lift, painted frame, bug body, the fact that bug is gay as big gay Al etc......

I wasent trying too say toyota bodys are not good i love the looks of my 82 truck but i was just thinking of something different.
It would :yipes: shock people out on the local trails when i come driveing by them in a lifted bug and then pass them on  a trail becuase im so much smaller and flex better.  :driving: :moon:.
Any body else got any input on this.
and ohh ya my bug is gonna look nothing like the stupid one in my picture that thing prob dosent even run much less wheel.
that guy prob built that for a show truck. :slap:
Myne will look good and work awesome, and will have a heck of a roll cage because im thinking thats its gonna be so short im gonna flip it over backwards alot.
kinda like a sami.  :driving:

I saw a bug with 44s on it at this years bloomsburg truck show,it was the new body style and it looked really stupid... although it didnt drive or anything let alone wheel, so that might of helped me to hate it..... :driving:
85 cab on a 87 sas frame with 6 inch lift, 15x10 wheels, 34-10.50 swampers, all pro high steer, shock hoops, dual diff guards, in cab roll cage, rancho 5000s, all poly bushings remote diff breathers front and rear recievers, welded rear(4:30's) 22re

Ya that would look pretty stupid but this one will look like a stock old style bug, but just taller off the ground because the frame will be cut down too fit the bug body.
I think it will look pretty sweet after im done with it.
And of course this one will drive and will get the :pokinit: 4 wheeled out of it.

Ya i can see the ball bounceing down a hill part thats why its gonna have a heck of a roll cage.
i dont know its gonna be pretty cool when its done but im gonna prob need some self righting system that way if i or more like when i roll it it will just push something out and flip it back over and keep going.

Im pretty sure he was refering to bugzilla there.  I have thought about doing something kinda like that but I would use a mid 60's honda civic actually it was called a cvcc back then.

ive seen all those like hursts, and like a mustang on a 4x4 frame but no vw's that actually go anywhere, ya theres the show trucks but this one will actually go somewhere.
its eather build the bug or start on a new bigger truck for me one with a v8,big axels,44's,coilover suspension, and all the rest of that.

If you could get it going and actually wheel it, then you would get some respect for the fact that it isnt just a show rig.  I wouldnt do it, because I like my truck why and wouldnt want to be riding around in a bug even if it was lifted and crawling around

No we are just going too cut out the body inside the compartment in the front of the bug under the hood for the motor in there.
But now i think we are scrapping this project for a diff one.
just got an 2001 toyota tacoma 2wd extended cab with a 3.4 v6 5 speed for 700 bucks only prob its been hit in front so its our new 4 wheeling project.
im seeing straight axel front and rear with lockers 5.29's long travel coilover suspension, supercharger, marlin duel transfer cases of course and ohh some maby 38's or bigger too make it really good at climbing over them obstacles.
How about that.
2001 super charged straight axel tacoma rideing around on 38's, and even better one that dident cost abunch and that will actually go wheeling unlike some rigs ive seen that do nothing but show them off and drive around town.

What about doing a Mini Cooper up like that?  But you could probably only get away with running 33's or the tires would rub
