Toyota Trucks (new or old)
« on: Aug 24, 2006, 11:29:27 AM »
Which do you think looks better? A early tacoma lifted or a 85 solid axle lifted.  I want a solid axle but I also like the looks of a tacoma at least the first tacomas

I like them all, the Taco's are kinda 1st gen looking and are sweet looking with an sas. Second gens are one of my favorites since an 84 was my first and you never forget the 1st one.

Well there is a large difference between the two so I would say dont base your choice on looks alone. Tacos are nice looking trucks, they have the newer 4cylinder and v6 engines, IFS and if you look hard enough you can find one with a elocker in the back. 85 trucks are either going to be carbed or efi with the only option being a 4 cylinder engine. if you are looking to build a WHEELING truck then i would try and find an 85. easy to make trail worthy, cheaper parts, less expensive initialy. the lifts and aftermarket parts for a tacoma are going to be pricier.

I love the look of any toyota truck or 4runner from 79 to 2000ish. but since i wanted a truck that would see as much trail use as it would see pavement, i bought an 85 4runner. I wanted a solid axle stock and an older body style truck. I am planning on buying a taco in the future to retire the 4runner from DD status, but right now the 85 makes a great DD.

So I say think about what you are going to use it for and make a decision from there. Trails? Street? Sand? Snow? Showroom floor (i hope not)

Hope this helps, take care and good luck.

My favorite is the 2nd gen trucks/1 gen Runner, then 1st gen trucks, 1st gen Tacos and my absolute least favorite is the current gen Tacos...looks like a Canyon.

Thanks for the comments. I agree the current gen tacos are retarded looking and are also not as small as I would like.  Right now I couldn't afford a taco anyway being I graduated from HS last year.  I am looking for an 85 22RE but I haven't seen any.  I am thinking of just getting something to offroad.  anything would be any upgrade from the 86 tercel I am driving.  But the tercel has taken me many places you wouldn't expect.  (jumps, mud, small hills)

Yeah, the new line of tacomas look like guppies with wheels if you ask me. i do however like the 96-00 varient, those are nice looking trucks. i think 84-88 body style is and always will be my favorite style. though if i lived overseas, the double cab hilux would be my rig of choice :)

I had an 89 tercel back in highschool for when the truck was down...tuff little car, takes jumps like a pro, they made a 4x4 wagon version for a little while.

The 4 wheel drive version is a wagon would be sweet to thrash on.

Yea I only have a 2wd Tercel but i did hit a jump at 45-50 mph off a cattleguard we got about 3 ft of air and 15-20 foot distance but the landing was scary(curvy dirt road) we managed to barely stay on the road over correcting a couple of times.

oh man  i can tell you was TRYING to get stuck in that last one

trade up to a 4wd tercel,  then get some little 7x25x14  mud tires

no crap   i saw one a few weeks ago, some kid was leaving the Highschool in it, mud all over it, then  i saw him again at walmart the next day and he had little baby mud tires on it, im guessing 225-75-14  :dunno:

wish i would have had my camera with me :rofl2:

HAH! Check out the tercel gettin' it. :haha:
I like the 1st gen trucks but I'm a little bias. Marlin's truck is pretty much my hero. I'm still whacking his old 8274 bumper allover the place with my 82.
