Alright everyone there it is.  As  you can see I had a bit of a rust problem :smack:,  done quite a bit, and have a bit to go. Let me know if you have any suggestions.  I have been considering ordering a fiberglass tub,  but Have gotten mixed reports.  I was gonna order it from JC whittney to be more specific.  But fiberglass is easy to work with.  As you can see in the pics my wheel base is slghtly longer,  and i need to be able to lengthen the tub here.

You need to go through my buildup thread. I bought a new steel tub from Vintage Jeeps in Texas. It cost me $2000 to the door here in FL.

From what I can see you have a good start.

What size tires are you going to run? I would extend the body in the wheel well so you can get the tires to clear. (see buildup for more info)

BTW  :welcome: and keep the pictures comming.

I have it in the workings to make the wheel wells big enough for 40s,  I have some cutaway fenders  in the parts Pile..
But I hope to run 38/12.50  give or take

By the way man,  I love your willys,  I orgionally wanted the new lib diesel for my jeep,  but the 350 was free.  I would loveto see more videos of your rig, ive already seen the ones from your sitings post,  good stuff .  I found your posts shortely after I started on mine, and have loved watching it progress.  You have some very impressive skills.

Alright  I got a new body tub on the way, (thanks for the offer to build some pannels mammoth) but I went with a fiberglass tub since I can work that stuff.  I have tube fenders so I dont have to work on cracking them, and I think i will desighn a 3psc removable exo for rougher trails.  i dont care for the exos on dd,  so I think I can make it pin on on the sliders and cage, and then over the front clip.   :flamer:

Might be a headache but who knows it might be cool.   :reg:  I have never seen anything like it.

Ok the deed is done.  My front axle has gone from your average 10 bolt to a hd ten bolt, for what its worth.  This week in went all new seals, detroit, hd ball joints, and hd u joints, new hardened pins and a 3 in wider stance thanks to some heavyduty offroad spacers.  I am now sitting at 6ft 10in wide in front and 6ft 8in in the rear.  Dont know how wide that is compared to other rigs but it should be good for my little willys jeep  .  I dont want to dump a ton of money in to it but I want it to be trail worthy till I get out of school and can afford to put some unimogs under it.

your removeable pin idea doesnt sound like its going to have the sheer strength needed to do anything other than cause problem in the event of a roll

Sheer strength wouldnt be an issue,  it would be only meant to protect the body..  But at any rate i know I didnt explain it that well but it would slide on from the side and it would be a compression issue purely on the sliders/frame and on the roll cage.  I dont know if that makes any more sence but thats the idea behind it.

Here is a getto pic i did real quick,  the red is my body tub,  and the top and bottom bar is the slider and roll cage,  the black represents the protruding pins,  and the other  bars show rough mock of bars.  In a roll it would be mostly compression,  and may limit the body work I have to do.

I see no problem with this idea. You just need to make sure the cage is firmly afixed to the frame.

Use a solid plug in the end of the pipe and a 1/2 through bolt.

You better believe it,  the frame is from the 3/4 ton chevy i got the motor and axles from.   When I found out that my origional frame was toast I made some measurements and found that the old chevy frame was pretty darn close to what I needed,  and for a light rig would provide some extra rigity.   SO I hacked off the back end  :flamer: and this is what I ended up with.   :gap:  Which worked perfect,  I didnt have to actually pull the motor, just modified the body to fit.

Thats some pretty sweet stuff man .  I dont worry a whole lot about sheering bolts,  all 8 pts on my cage are held in place by 4 grade 8 bolts each 1/2in thick.  But looks like it would be a clean strong alternative.  I might use something like that on my removable exo.  It would definatly add some sheer strength.  What are you building

Check this guys,  A buddy of mine in montana tried to drive  :driving: through a "shallow" pond. :hammerhead:  I had to laugh at him.  Of course his truck was fine, after draining a gallon or so of water out of the oil pan.  Pulling the air box, and draining that, and pulling the plugs and sucking the water out of the cylinders.    Its ok to laugh, im his best friend and thats exactly what I did.   :ha_ha: :ha_ha: :ha_ha:

I had an epiphany today,  Tell my what you think.  I want to either move my rear shocks into the tub and attaching them directly to the cage, or running tubing down to the shock loops to keep them from flexing into the fiberglass tub,  Dont want to break anything.    Alright the pros and cons for each

PROS Running to cage inside the tub.
1.  very rigid
2.  gets the shock 2-5 inches further away from the tires.
3.  ?

Cons
1.  Dont know how to seal out road noise with a hole in the tub
2.  hole in the tub
3.  ?

Pros for keepin them outside the tub
1.  No holes in the tub
2.  ?

Cons
1.  keeps some tight but clearing clearances during flex
2.  under stress could press loop through the fiberglass tub
3. ?

Alright guys help me out with the list.   Give me some more pros and cons

Alright new question.  I was thinkin of using a bed liner in the cab to protect the fiberglass tub from my feet.  But  i  heard some people speak praises to them  , and some who complain that it didnt last as well as they wanted .    So whats the best thing to do,  are they what their cracked up to be.  Am I going to be making more of a headache if i do body dammage and have a liner on the inside.   I would assume all know I am refering to the spray on type.  What should I do.  Maybe only spray the floors.
