Do some searching and you'll find the one you want has EFI and a solid front axle.  :welcome:

each gen has its advantages....

1st gen - round fenders look sweet! solid axle....looks are the best part of this truck IMO
2nd gen - efi solid axle, later models with the v6 can do the 3.4 swap
3rd gen - can swap in 3.4 easy if you have 3.0 v6 5speed
4th gen - 3.4 ! elocker

i personally like the 1st gens....79-80 with the round eyes.

I have to agree with the rest. 1985. EFI + Solid front.

Now that isn't to say the other ones were worse off. Anything pre 85 was carbed and anything after 85 needs a SAS.

I voted 88-91 because I have an 89 extra cab.  the only problem is the ifs, So if you got a third gen then you would want to do a solid axle swap.  I went with the 3rd gen because of the size of the extra cab.

3rd gen xcab!!  sure, you've got to do an IFS, but I'd rather do that then mess with wiring :smack:
I can't count the # of times I've been glad to have an xcab, to stuff that one more person in, to throw my sleeping bagin when its raining, or to just lean the seat back and go to sleep, instead of sleeping upright when you get rained or snowed out!

I'm partial to the early second gens, 84 or 85.  Solid axle, 22R, Extra-cab, squarish body styling; the list goes on for me.  Except the round head lights I'll agree with that one.   :yesnod:

i voted for 84-88. primarily because the 85 for its efi and straight axle. but my real choice would be 89-95. just because i think they have the best body lines. but really ya can't go wrong with whatever ya choose

First gen.  The look compared to everything else is enough.

Realize I've gotten stuck numerous times due to havin' a carb.  I would love EFI, but I wouldn't trade my truck for a second gen., ever (Although I will be installing EFI eventually).

And what's the big deal about round eyes?  I've seen em' and prefer my rectangular ones myself.....

GraveDigger has round eye's. My 1970 Nova had round eye's. Guess, that are a few reasons why. I just like the stance of a round eye over a square head...ops square one.

It's just my personal preference that a Round body Hilux looks better with Round head lights. Round fenders, round lights.

Square head lights are for square trucks such as 2nd gen trucks

I've never done it before, but the cabs are the same. All you need to do is get a grill from a 1979-(early)1982 Hilux and also the headlight brackets. Then convert it! :_order: DO IT!

Even though I own and love my 1st gen, I voted second gen since the 85 has the best of everything.

Also is the 1st year you didn't have to worry with the trans losing 5th gear.

I would say any one of them, cause I don't have a toyota!  But I would really love a 89-95 extra cab sas!  I keep trying to talk my uncle into selling me his 85 extra cab that he bought brand new!  But he claims he will never sell it!   :crossed:
