The Trekker Build Begins
« on: Feb 22, 2006, 05:53:36 PM »
I finally got started on my 81 Trekker  So today i pulled the old rear end out and took the good stuff off and tossed out what was bad. The po did really crappy job he had put an 89 ifs rear end in and then ground down the spring perch's trying to get the u-bolts lined up which he never did succede in doing as you can see in the pictures i took.THe u-bolts were angled out and not straight and he had used an axle out of a sfa axle and an ifs axle so that problem is fixed, So i took the seats out of it because they were being held in by a single bolt on each side and then i took the Lund visor off and its for sale if anyone wants one. I now nned to get new brakes, bearings and seals before the v6 rear end go's in. I picked up some s-10 blazer springs for free today and they measure about 54 inch's long so they should work out good.So here some picture's

Sweet!  Cool project.  Take your time and do it right, there aren't many of those babies left out there.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I've run a top on all my trucks since I use it as my tent and have never broke one, have smacked them pretty hard on the rocks. My current top is ailing at the moment from trail duty but I think it's the design.

I never thought it'd happen, but I actually found a cooler first gen than a trekker, but it's in australia.

That's the one my coworker has that he won't let go.  It's just been sitting for a few years, still needs an engine.

I 've run a shell or the hard top if it were a 4Runner in all my trucks. Have hit a few times and have yet to break one. I smacked the hell out of a shell once didn't even break the glass.

I drove my Runner basically on it's side a couple of weeks ago at Truckhaven. I have a nice dent in the rear corner sheetmetal but the top held up great (just a few scratches). :)
