When I did mine I pulled the axle removed the snap ring then bolted the axle back in. Attached a slide hammer to two lug studs and "hammered" the axle away from the housing. Worked great.
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

I also swapped in my Tacoma rear since it was setup for an e-locker.  It desperately needed a wheel bearing and I am poor so no way was I going to take it to a shop.  I made up a SST for myself.

This bolts on to the backing plate

Then you place it in the press and begin pressing on the axle

Really the easiest is a SST and a12t press (minimum  - barley fits with a DIY SST), then there are the methods described in the previous posts.

Plumbing fittings:
- 2" schedule 40 pipe 20" long threaded on both ends
- 3" floor flange
- 3" x 2" bushing (reducer)
- 2" floor flange

The holes need just a little grinding to line up. I use it in a hydraulic press, but it could just as easily be used with four lengths of all-thread and a a piece of flat stock across the top of the axle.

Nice idea but I do not know if I would trust those cast flanges.

They worked very well. It was really seized in the flange and the whole assembly jumped when the bearing finally came out.

Cool, I made mine out of two flat pieces of .250 steel and a piece of 2.5 DOM. Had a real tight one and bent the plate so I welded a piece of .375 channel on top of it. No more bending.

I had no problem pressing it off without making any special puller type thing. I just slapped my axle shaft assembly on the press at work. I set it up with the shaft able to slide out but the backing plate on the press cross bars. I put around 1200 lbs of force on before it started to slide out. Make sure to pull the snap ring!!!!!
