3RZ Swap lower radiator hose part number : 16572-0W030

2WD 3RZ T100 hose

I could not find this when I needed it. This looks like a good place for it.

The T-100 2wd oil pan will fit the 2rz engine. I have one bolted to my 2rz at this moment. I am waiting for the pickup tube to arrive and see no reason it will not work also. I am going to try to use the original dipstick, hope it works.

E-9, the original dipstick won't work.  You have to use the t100 one and cap off the old dipstick hole with a little aluminum plug.  (a little advise: freeze the plug first or it will just mushroom out when you tap it in)

Where does the t-100 dipstick go? Does it use the hole in the side of the pan?

Nope, that hole in the side of the pan is for a oil level sensor (if it's a large hole you are talking about) - I think I just got a block off plate for that - can't remember  :headscratch:.  The T100 dipstick goes into the block on the driver's side - there should be an aluminum plug to knock out for the hole.  I drilled the motor mount bracket and used it to hold the little mounting tab on the dipstick - pretty easy process really.

Hello Everybody, I am new to this forum but have read it for the last year. I have a 1979 4x4 20r that I am trying to convert to a 3rz. I have found a 2002 Tacoma 3rz engine in a wrecked vehicle. What other parts should I request off of this vehicle? Whatever help I can get would be appreciated.

oldbluecrawler,  get the bellhousing, clutch fork, clutch slave cylinder, engine wirring harness, evap lines, charcoal canister, intake, ECU, p/s line, this list will still probably go on....

Big Mike will probably be of more help since he has done a couple of 3rz conversions on first gens.

Does anyone have a list of what trucks came through with the 3RZ? Has anyone put a 3RZ in a 3rd gen 2wd truck? I am rebuild my 1994 2wd and want to put a 3RZ in it. Does anyone know what transmission my truck might have and would it bolt up to a 3RZ? So any info would be great.

Thanks Opie

    • Bone-Stock Plane-Jane 1981 Shortbed Pickup
I've recently got some rear wheel dyno graphs on the 3RZ-FE and 22R-E engines :circle:

We recently ran a 1986 22R-E, did a 1996 3RZ conversion, and then ran the same truck again on the dyno with the 1996 3RZ.

Here are the results! 1986 22R-E vs. 1996 3RZ-FE

As you can see, the 1996 3RZ makes 41.7 more horsepower and 49.4 more torque at the wheels than the 1986 22R-E, in the same truck.

And the dyno technician said that by reading the torque band of the 3RZ, you can see it build torque, then drop torque, then build torque, then drop torque, etc., and this means that the engine is detonating. He said if we had better fuel in the tank (I believe this fuel is a good 5 or 6 months old and is most likely 87 oct), then it would have put up even more impressive numbers.

Here is Bevin's 2004 3RZ rear wheel dyno graph from his 1984 Shortbed pickup:

Bevin's 2004 3RZ dyno pull is a lot different than the 1996 3RZ. The 2004 Torque band peaked much later than the 1996 Torque band. Marlin and I want to get our 3RZ's tested soon, so having a couple more graphs to compare would certainly be a good thing

Finally finished my project. I have a couple cosmetic things left and AC things but its smogged, registered and gets over 20MPG.

Engine front

SMOG and fuse box in factory Tacoma positions

MAF and resonators

Side view; E-Locker switches that still need to be mounted

Passenger side view; Still trying to figure out the radio, no speakers, no sound. The Tacoma AC/heater and blower motor are under that dash.

Drivers side view; Tilt wheel works, Speedometer is 2 MPH off with Marlin signal converter.

The only 4-runner wiring left is for the rear window. The rest in all new from the 2000 Tacoma donor.

Exhaust crossover; driveshaft clearance is an issue with the HP 3rd

Front clearance; Electic fan was a must. There was 3" too little room for mechanical.

Rear is tight. Just like I like it. Harness in factory position.

85 4Runner
2000 3RZ
2000 Tacoma dash, wiring harness, AC/Heater system
Front Diamond Axle with 5.29 HP E-locker, Longfield 30's, Kongs Hi Steer,
Rear Tacoma axle with 5.29 E-locker, Front Range Off Road Full Float Axle Kit
Marlin Dual case, Marlin 4.7 gears in rear case

Since the donor vehicle in my conversion is for a truck that orignally had a 22RTE (turbo motor), the wiring harness and cluster is different than the standard and very common 22R or 22RE motors, I decided not to list the vehicle connections I made on my vehicle because I'm sure it would cause more confusion than good. Plus since I don't have an actual wiring diagram for the donor truck, I can't label the plugs correctly which would just double the confusion. And please don't email me in the future asking me where I connect such and such a wire - because I'm sure in a month I won't remember...

any idea how much different the harness in a 1996 would be from this one.... I know the 96 is a distributor motor and the 2000 is a twin coil but I am not sure how much of the wiring carrys over??? If anyone has any idea or a list of what wires are needed in the 1996 application I would appreciate the info....

Coffee Boy: Im very happy for you. You did a great job putting that together. Though I must say Im a little surprised that you did the dash swap. (Glad to someone other than me did it.)   I cant wait to see it.

How did you get a rear sump oil pan to accept a front end dip-stick?

Thanks for the advice you gave me. You were right, it was really a nightmare at times. Totally worth it though.

I just never took out the old dipstick. I just installed the T100 stick on the side and left the other one alone. You can just see it at the bottom of pisture 2.

I'm currently putting in a 96 3RZ into my 86 4Runner.  Got most of the wires sorted/labled but have not splice them in yet.  After I bought my 96 EWD manual, I found this link @ TTORA for the 96Tacoma wiring manual.  (Wish I had found it sooner!)

http://www.norcalttora.com/~chris/articles/96_electrical.pdf

I can tell you that the 96 does not have the IK3 connector, but a larger IK1 connector.  Most of the wires are the same color with the same function, but they are in a different spot on the connectors.  I hope this link helps you.

I may be starting on the wiring this weekend, but I still have a lot of small loose ends to take care of.

Mine's not running yet, but I didn't bother putting in a T100 dipstick/guide.  I left the tacoma front end dipstick in and with 6qts of oil, it reads fine.  I read somewhere that those who used the front end dipstick with a rear sump T100 pan had to cut a bit off the end.  I didn't cut mine and it goes in fine.

I’m just getting started on mine. I have a 95 t-100 the whole thing I bought off nate  its  going into my 86 runner. jmsdad did you cut and make new engine mounts on your frame or just use the old one. I think I’m just going to cut mine off and make some new ones since i already got rid of the ifs just to clean it up. Thanks for that link I’m going to have to see how much alike the t100 and tacoma are wired that would be seat if that diagram works.
