a special thank you to our troops
« on: Dec 12, 2005, 09:06:48 AM »
In Honor of all our guys and gals in uniform defending our rights and safety here at home, i salute you :usa:  and thank you :usa:

A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS POEM

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter
  beside me, angelic in rest.

Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.

In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I
opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.

Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A
lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a
Marine, huddled here in the cold.

Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing
watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear, "Come in
this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from
the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."

"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That
separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to
stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at 'Pearl on a day in December," Then
he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam', And
now it is my turn and so, here I am.

I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The
red, white, and blue... an American flag.

"I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away
from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.

I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down
my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all, To ensure
for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, Your
family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?

It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, "Just
tell us you love us, and never forget.

To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.

God Bless you all :usa:   :respect:

thank all of you for the support.  I know not a lot of service men will see this but the ones that do it will mean a lot to them.

Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic terrorists who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?
Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our  nation's capitol, and in a field in Pennsylvania?
Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?  And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier is accused of kicking it or getting it wet?      Well, I don't. I don't care at all. What I hate more is the so called 'news' reporters, the pompous liberal liars, were trying to make a big stink out of nothing, just to make President Bush look bad. I'll start caring when Osama bin
Laden turns himself in and just before they drop the noose around his scrawny neck, repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11. I'll care about the Koran when the fanatic bastards in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia. I'll start to care when the stinking better than thou Muslims in this country really condemn the radicals of their pathetic dark age 'religion' for all the terror and death that they've caused in the world.  I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling, slashed throat.
I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.
I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.
I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First
Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.
In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave Marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I hope he beats his ass to a pulp because he really deserves it and I don't care. When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi terrorists who have been 'tortured' in what amounts to a college hazing incident, by having to wear panties on their heads, rest assured that I don't care. When I see a wounded terrorist
get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be
booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank that I don't care.
When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart that I don't care, and I wish they'd quietly make the illegitimate son of a camel turd disappear for good.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and -- you guessed it -- I  don't care!"

NoPower, if you have any way of relating this back to your brothers in arms, please do so.
Nothing means more to us then those who are at the front, being there for us, to give us the security and freedom we have to enjoy our holidays and our lives.
There may be a small faction, that is a BIG voice, that makes it sound like you are not appreciated, but they are not the majority. We love you and we pray for you. Do not ever forget, no matter what you might hear from "them" that you all have our utmost respect.  :usa:

As most of you know My son is in the Army and it is at these times that I think about those men and women who can not be with there familes this Christmas. Because I picked My soldier up at the airport this morning to spend christmas and the new years with us I am personally as happy as can be that mine is with me this holiday season. but at the same time I am  :rivers:  as I write this because I feel guilt and sadness for those who can't share in this kind of happiness and say to them . to the soldiers thank you for the sacrifice of being unable to hold your family and friends during the holidays going to the local IN&OUT,SONIC,WHITECASTLE,or what have you. or in the case of those you are at this very moment facing possible harm at every turn. It is you that makes this country what it is . THANK YOU will never be enough as far as I am concerned. Two words do not cover the pride and gratitude I feel . and two words are not enough to convey the sadness and loss I feel everytime I hear that we have suffered more casualties.  But if we all say it to every soldier, salior ,or Airman we see It will be enough. and to the Familys left behind to wait and wonder day after day where and how their soldier is . wondering everytime they here another report about more US troops wounded or killed in IRAQ is that my loved one . Your sacrific is surpassed only by that of the solider you wait for or have lost  And words Fail me I can not even imagine how you feel . for as I said My son is home for the Holidays and I hope yours will be as soon as possible

you all have all my love , respect , and best wishes and prayer

those of you here  know Kris  has been to Iraq  and will possible go back,   MWM reminded today on a different post,  heres my response

:usa:

Diane,  you just reminded me,  when i took Kris his axle,  his 3 or 4 y/o daughter was looking at my moms homemade baby quilts,   she finally settled on these two different blankies but couldnt deside which one,  me and Kris and his wife were standing there,  My mom asked if she wanted the little flowers or the ABC's  she said in the sweetest little voice," Flowers die all the time" and reached for the ABC blankey,  Me and Kris had to step away  it was so hilarious,   he said, "she has such a little attitude"  i laughed about that all the way home

:usa:    to the little ones and their proud moma's and Papa's

God Bless You All
