Ok so I didn't get a whole lot done this time  but here is the update:

IT SUPPORTS ITS OWN WEIGHT NO PROBLEM!!!

So basically, I shaved the old perches off, and welded the new ones in place. I went to put the u-bolts back on but they be too long. I am going to have to buy the right dye and add some more threads. :_oops:

Then I will test flex and wheel travel, build some shock towers and then add flat bed, lights and on to phase # 8? I forget. Anyway, hydro steer and 3/4" suspension drop in front.

Look at this! It looks like a full width under there with so much axle sticking out both sides! :hammer:

Ok maybe not, but still!

I'm gonna have to truss the axle for sure... :nerv:

Oh well, we'll see how it holds up when I take it on a christening run. If I don't like it, or if it breaks, I'll cut it off and link it! :_oops: :o :screwy: :hahaha:

I am tired still. I got to work on my truck on Friday 2:30pm until 5:30am the next morning.

So this time I got done:

Rear brake lines run on my axle cuz when I was shaving off the perches I cut into the lines a bit. :_oops:

Sky boomerang shackles installed in the front.

Got to work on my steering.

Pics to follow.

The boomerang shackles I got from Sky are very nice. 3/8" material, greaseable 18mm gd8 bolts and nylocs. I dropped some new poly bushings in there too. NICE.

There is no contact on compression, but on extension there is a bit. So I just trimmed the body mount about 1/2 inch. It's fine...

Speaking of which, in order to cycle the suspension, I had to do a bit of a forklift flex test... :shake: The rear doesn't flex well without any weight in the back. I do notice, however, that there isn't even a bit of flex in the frame. Apparently it is welded solid enough. :hammer:

Then I ran the brake lines, pretty simple. I just grabbed the already flared Metric brake line stuff from Lordco. $6 a piece.

After that I did a lot of thinking and planning how I want to run my hydro steer. I put the clamp I made earlier on my tie-rod, I swapped steering boxes, I drilled out my restrictor plate in the pump.

Alls I need now is mounting tabs on the axle housing and clamp, new hoses, and a new canister.

Also, I need to send back my pitman arm. It seems that when I bought my Moog ES150R chevy TRE, and put it into the tapered hole in the Sky pitman arm, the hole is too big. I think Sky sent me the wrong pitman arm. Ill have to stick with the Toyota IFS pitman arm for now. :headshake:

Hey thanks mang.

I just found out I have a dead line of the end of April to get this truck driveable. :nerv: I don't think I will be able to getter done by then. I'll have to start working on it on Wednesdays as well.

List of to do's:

Rear shock towers.
Flatbed.
Lights and brakes.
Mounting hydro 2 way ram.
Running hydro lines.

I guess it's not all that much to do. I'm up against the clock. Can I do it??? :sheerterror: :o :burnout:

I put it all together with some 2x2 square, 3/8" flat bar, 1/4" hydrolic lines, come 90 degree 1/4" NPT fittings and woila... HYDRO ASSIST.

I really have to thank Freds40 & Roktoy again for the hydro-assist posts. Your brilliance is extraordinary! :clap2:
The links I am refering to are here:

You can also notice from the above pics that I changed my spring plates from 3/16" to 3/8"
thick material. No more bending! And I made them low profile so I could save as much space to fit the stroke of my ram.

:beerchug:

The last thing I need to do yet is make a larger reservoir to exceed the new ram capacity. I'll do it the exhaust pipe way. Easy. That's for another day though.

Not super important but I welded on some D rings onto my rear crossmember. They are a nice cheap option, $7 bucks a piece, and 11,000 lb towing capacity. I got them on my front crossmember as well.

Now alls I got to do is finicky stuff like:

Plate the steering stops.
Weld in my new center crossmember.
Fab up some rear shock mounts.
Truss my axles.
Finish running my brake lines.
Run and mount my lights.
Fab up my flatbed.
Build a tank support and run new gas lines.
Removeable mud flaps.
and last...
Build some sliders.

Two more weeks left...  :nerv: :smack:

2 more weeks and making good headway...but......get er' done!!!

I'll get 'er done for sure. I am getting more confident that I'll be able to make it driveable by that time. It's tough though. 6.5 more weeks and I'm a married man. Trying to find time to work on it is tough. But I realize after we're married, it'll be next to impossible to find time. :( So I've got to get it done sooner than later.

I seriously can't wait to try it out. Sometimes, when I'm all alone working on a Friday night... I'll sit in the cab and pretend to drive over boulders and stuff, making all the revving noises and such tossing myself left and right as I "articulate" over rocky terrain. :driving:

I know, I know... :screwy:

Update time:

I haven't posted any pics in a while. Time to roll.

So I started building my flatbed. I bought 2 sticks of 2x2x1/8" square and 1 stick of 1x1x1/8" square. I also got for FREE, a 4'x8' sheet of 12 guage cold rolled steel for my flatbed pan.

I built the frame on the floor, and then dropped it on the truck frame and welded all around. I ended up not making it tall enough, so I ended up cutting it off and adding another 2" to the bed height... :smack:. Oh well. After that I cut a pan out of the sheet I got for FREE. Oh, did I mention I got it for FREEEEE??? :woohoo:

Ok shut up Sam, time for pics! :gap:

While I was at it, I fabbed and welded in some outer axle trusses, and welded on my lower shock mount aka a bolt. :gap:

And Maffy brought be over a present! He got me a 4" extender. :haha: A 4" extension on my... reservoir!!! Coolio, so I primed and painted that with high heat enamel stuff.

Oh and I bought some LED's too! Hehehe. :eyebrow:

Next I started making my shock mounts. I went the easy route and used the "whatchagot" method. Basically I used what was left of the flatbed material. Nice and easy. Looks not too bad. Not as smooth as DOM, but still clean.

After that I cut down my pan again to clear for the shocks. Oh and I painted everything too. It is actually starting to look respectable. I just use the cheap rubberized chassis paint. Works not too bad when you use a good etching primer. Oh and I also installed the pan with some flat screws and a counter sinking drill bit.

Okay so from the above pics, I'm sure you can tell that I have already installed my LED's. As yu'll note, I used 4" LED's for the brake, 2.5" LED's for the turn signals, and a 4" incandescent white light for the reverse. The reason I used an incandescent for the reverse is because of the cost of the LED's:

1x red or amber 4" LED = $20
1x red or amber 2.5" LED = $10
1x white 4" LED = $80

Why the price difference? Well, if you put clear LED's behind a clear lense, you get a bright light comparable to a headlight. No good for an indicator lamp. So what they do that makes a "white" LED white, is they inject the casing (sealed) with a certain gas that gives it a tint of blue to make it look more "white" looking. So because they are fairly new on the market (in Canada), and because of the extra step they put into it, the "white" LED's are expensive.

Unfortunately, I didn't have that kind of $$$ to throw around quite yet, so I went with the $5 alternative of a white incandescent reverse light.

More pics...

The weekend, May 5th-6th, I mounted my gas tank and fabbed up some removeable mud flaps.

For the gas tank, I wanted to secure it above the deck, but below the window, so I fabbed up a low profile frame that would do just that. The only thing that restricts my view now is the filler tube. Fortunately, I can always cut that down later.

Next I welded in some removeable mud flaps, I'm sure you already know why, as they tend to rip off when backing up over large objects. I made it out of some sleeved DOM tube 1/8" thick each with a 1.5"x 0.100" thich tab for mounting the flap.

Now with the pull of a pin, the flaps come off in under 30 seconds.
