Identify hole in 22RE power steering pump
« on: Dec 15, 2023, 08:54:14 PM »
Hello All, after several searches on here, pirate, and t4r with no luck, I am reaching out for help.

I recently picked up a 92 4runner 4x4. The 22RE came with factory power steering, but it does not retain fluid. The culprit is an open hole on the side of the pump. Please see photo for reference.

I've only seen one post referencing it, in which it was referred to as a "flow valve". I don't know if this is correct and I don't know if am missing parts or what it is supposed to look like. To me it just looks like a big hole.

Please let me know what it actually is, and if possible, please show me what it is supposed to look like. Also is this something that would be fixed with a rebuild kit?

Also that's not mold or moss growing in my engine bay - that's a byproduct of the photo resizing application I used  :drooling:
