New Member - Purchasing 1980 Toyota Hilux 4x4
« on: Sep 18, 2019, 10:53:13 AM »
New member here! I'm new to Marlin Crawler, but not Toyotas. I have owned a 3rd gen 4Runner, 1st gen Tacoma, 80 series Land Cruiser, and now a 3rd gen Tacoma and 40 series Land Cruiser.

I am looking at purchasing a blue 1980 Toyota Hilux 4x4. It has very low miles and is mostly all original, but has had a lift kit added to it. Normally that wouldn't bother me, but I'm not familiar with the type of lift installed by the previous owner.

It appears to be some sort of EBay-type Duetsch Tech lift with custom shock hoops on the front and dual shocks. And some sort of lift brace on the axles. It also has dual shocks for the steering stabilizer. Can anyone ID this lift?

If it's merely bolt on, and can be converted back to stock, that's no big deal to me. But if it's something welded to the frame or axles, that makes it less appealing.

Thanks!

It looks like it is all bolt-on, should be much of an issue to return it to stock.  Erick561 sells parts, if you get the truck, likely be able to get the stock parts needed through.  Even if it there is some more to it, if the interior is as clean as the rest of the truck, and you aren't paying current market value for a a clean 1st gen, I wouldn't let a little work scare you off, the 1st gen values have gone up significantly over the last 4yrs.
