new to me 92 extracab SAS
« on: Jan 12, 2019, 08:01:13 PM »
so there was a couple that was moving and could not take this truck with them so I could not pass up a good looking Toyota for a good price. still needs a little work, mainly gears, lockers and loose some leaves to make it a little lower.
truck is a 22re 5 speed stock case with what looks like a TG SAS kit.  fox resi shocks and nearly new 35" MTR's

needs a little stinger rework.

it has fox resi shocks all around.

needs to loose some leaves to get lower and a better shackle angle. it rides cray stiff.

Hopefully I can get it wheelable before summer. I want to get out in some of this snow I keep hearing about.

well I finally got to the licensing place and got this transferred so I can really start playing with it. fi thing I really need to do is get it to be a lot lower. the shackle angle sucks and it rides worse than my 1 ton dodge.  I think the spring packs are all going to loose 2-3 leafs to try and make them work better and lower he truck down some.  I know I have some stock birfs and extra hubs in the back of my fj40 in spokane so this weekend I am probably going to go over there and see what parts I have in my stash to use on this truck.

so last Thursday I setup the truck on my trailer to pull some leafs in the front and get her riding a little better and lower.  got that job done and then found I had a pittman arm tie rod interference issue

this is at ride height

shackle angle worked slightly better. I think who ever did this swap actually put the front hanger slightly too far forward.

ride height is better though. about 3-4" lower

I also got a set of hubs from Ritchie and picked up a 4.88 diff on Friday so just need one more set of 4.88's to get her geared right. I think I might pick up a spartan as well to get at least one locker in there as well.

Well I got the sky pittman arm on and it solved my interference problem.  also this happened so I had to go do some quick "testing"

a hour of driving around and I learned the alignment is seriously off because if I let off the gas in 4wd the whole truck would go sideways and pull driver hard.  in 2wd even with the hubs locked it would stay strait.

I also learned the speedo does not work and the check engine light is on because the wiring harness from the frame to the O2 sensor and speed sensor is missing  lol.

now I just need to find a donor truck to find that part of the harness to help get those back. I think I need tie rods on botht he tie rod and drag link on the driver side too.

no real build updates but I did get her out to test out the snow run capabilities.

(disregard the coordinates. that is where i started not ended)
Made it up to 5300' on saturday and was pushing snow with the front bumper for alot of the trip. i backed out when i started really pushing hard becasue i was alone and it was dark and i knew i still had a good trek back to the main road.

she did suprisingly well for un aired down 35's and open front and rear.  She did drink about 2 quarts of oil for the 3 hour round trip though :headscratch: although most was spent over 3k RPM.

i need to adress that fact. I bet a set of 4.88's will help and i have been eyeing a lunchbox locker to give her at least 3 tire fire.

well I went and sold her.  It developed a smoking issue really bad and I kept finding more and more little things wrong with it so I put her up for sale and had a guy offer me 3500 in cash second day so I went for it.  It is hard to have a project and know you have no place to work on it.
