Topic: W56 differences

Good morning! I'm getting parts (I think) this weekend to begin the process for swapping Toyota running gear into my Daihatsu Rocky. I have posted in the axle forum about the 8", but now I'm confused about the transmission.

Two good swap pages show 22res swapped into a Rocky, and they used a W56 5-speed behind it. However, if I'm right, the W56 A and B have a shifter further back, and the C and later moved the shifter further forward. I think the "back" one is the top shift or rear shift?

The one thread that is more specific used an '87 4Runner 5-speed, which should be a W56 B. Is this correct?

If so, I can't used the 5 speed out of the '89 I'm looking at tomorrow.

Then...question 2, is the A or B better? Or, does it not matter?

Aside from the make up of part of the tranny, with iron vs. aluminum, is one of the A or B better than the other?

A or B doesn't matter.

More B's, so easier to find.
