Not your average Toyota
« on: Dec 13, 2018, 04:18:45 AM »
Now that the Toyota destruction is at a lull and the Jeep was a dire disappointment ive bought the last vehicle i will be buying for a while.
Unless I buy a Series 2 to restore. Anyway, i need a vehicle that does the following

1:Economical to run.
2:Economical to repair and in a timely manner with parts available in the same country on the same day, forever.
3:Must have a towing capacity of over 3 tons.
4:Must be camp and fake overland friendly.
5:Must be able to securely lock tools in the rear of the vehicle. I.E replace non 4wd deathly slow Toyota van.
6:Must be 4wd (duh).
7:Must be upgradeable without ball ache.
8:Must be factory solid axle.

So, options:

1: 4 Runner, none left, rotten, slower than :pokinit: sliding down a hill. too much glass.
2: 80 series Cruiser, i have yet to win the lottery. Also too much glass.
3: Late model Japanese truck, pregnant dog please.
4: Jeep, i said i wanted a functional multi tasking vehicle, also JK requires a lottery win. Also, no parts.
5: Early Hilux, Slower than the :pokinit: sliding down a steeper hill, no towing capacity, rotten. i may have already cut it up.
6: Walk.

but wait whats this.........

Brought it from Drew Peacock Forestry but surprisingly it doesnt stink of gas and two stroke.
Drove it home with death wobble. Found that the front wheel nuts were hanging off.
Id had it an hour and was turning wrenches on it, I also stuck 20psi in every tyre to bring em up to 32psi.
Undeterred ive ordered a service kit for it from my buddy Mike Hunt Land Rover Services as the oil is tacky and runs lumpy when cold, the truck has been stood for two years.
Ive had it on a lift and all the dampers are shot, probably because previous owner fitted cheap turds.
Wants a wash off and treating before the wankers at the council start salting.
Its more fun to drive than a Toyota.
Winch on the front dont work.

I will also be posting my buggy build in this thread and by buggy i mean trialler because its being built for doing trials so from here on in it will be referred to as the latter.

I am very fond of old trucks, wheelers, cars, and other old stuff.  I really respect, admire, and appreciate the people who find them, buy them, and then spend their time and money fixing them up!!  :beerchug:

On a side note.... I feel less dirty thinking about gay sex than i do working on Land Rover junk

Keep it TOYOTA!

In the past years, I used to get a lot of calls from Jeep owners wanting to go slow like the Toy trucks.

thingy, hippocrite, traitor ive heard it all.

However i now get to wave at other people in Rovers, like the Jeep wave only people know about it and you dont have to have a sticker on the wing mirror, i have to have a post it on the window to remind me not to be a thingy.

Im in Europe and therefore am open minded, deal with it.

Steve, I’m just giving you :pokinit:!  What are your plans with the rover?  We all know you do good work, so we will all be following your build thread as it progresses!  Plus it is something different than what we are all used to seeing, so it will be entertaining for sure!

Very cool! I've always liked the look of these and the older Land Rovers. There's something fantastic about that basic, rugged, agricultural shape. Timeless!

What are your plans with this rig, and where in Europe are you located?

England.
Not sure, got a few ideas, first things is a good service, new dampers, rip out all the dodgy aftermarket wiring and redo it. Fix busted lights and swap winch. Make a fake rooftent fit and fill it with all the junk ive been tripping over in the shop since August. Oh and get a shorter hi lift.
Also, tyres and i have a pair of series doors for it which split in half, think factory half doors

Less than my jeep

Keep in mind that the air conditioning consists of 4th gear and those flaps under the windshield lol
Keep it TOYOTA!

In the past years, I used to get a lot of calls from Jeep owners wanting to go slow like the Toy trucks.
