Topic: 3rz swap transmission choice

Looking at 3rz swapping my 82 like mike did in his big project thread. My question is if I buy a wrecked taco with a 5 speed can I use its transmission also or do I need to look for something else. I was told my 82 5 speed isn't the best option.

Get a W56 transmission and use the taco 5 speed bellhousing (W59).

With the w59, that's the tacoma transmission, you would have a chain drive transfer case. Alot of people favor the older gear drive units, that's what is in your truck now. A w56 transmission has gear drive. You will need the w59 bellhousing, clutch fork, and clutch slave. I used the hard line from clutch slave to clutch master as well. The w56 trans is a direct bolt on to the w59 bell.
