Pickup Won't Turn Off???
« on: Oct 22, 2018, 05:30:42 PM »
Hey guys, I've been having a lot of issues lately with my truck. I just put a 22reperformance 22r in it. I drove it for a bit and some weird stuff started happening. First of all, when I turn the key to the off position the truck continues to run. At first I assumed that the timing was off and therefore it wouldn't die, but now I'm thinking there's something else wrong. Also, recently my GM ignition module died on me. I replaced the coil and module and since then if I rev the motor up it back fires terribly and there is absolutely no power. I just got it back from a shop who was stumped and didn't want to go any further with it.

Any ideas from you guys?

Sounds like maybe a bad replacement ignition coil and module, maybe a bad starter switch?

That's an internet-based diagnosis from someone who has never had this problem. Estimated value about half of what you paid for it  :gap:

If it's running on and not just dieseling maybe you have your coil stuff hooked up wrong.  I think we have an ignition hot and a constant hot wire there.  Not completely sure. If you had them swapped maybe it would continue to run after you shut the key off?

Wish I was there.

I’ll give that a try when I get home from work. I’m also suspecting that the ignition switch is faulty.

So I'm still having some strange issues with the Toyota.

I recently switched coils and the ignition module (GM mod) on the truck. It seems to run a bit better but still does not turn off when I turn the key off.
I tried unplugging the alternator when the truck is running, but it still continues to run. I am now suspecting the coil is having feedback??
Has anyone ever had this stuff happen?

I've read that some guys put diodes in line on the alternator wire, but I don't think this is my issue. Is there anything else I can try?
