Keyless entry question
« on: Oct 09, 2018, 11:30:14 PM »
I have a 2012 Tacoma w/ factory keyless entry.  It beeps and the lights flash when lock/unlock the doors.  Anyone know how to disable this?  It irritates me when I'm trying to be quiet  :psss:

On the 4th gen 4runners the buzzer was inside the drivers fender well.  If you listened to the beep you could see the wires going into the fender from the engine compartment.  Remove the buzzer and you are done.  It maybe similar in the Tacomas.

See if this can be understood:

(a)   Open the driver side door and insert the key into the ignition cylinder.
(b)   Remove the key from the ignition cylinder and, within 5 seconds, reinsert the key and turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c)   After 10 seconds, the system enters answer-back buzzer switching mode.
(d)   Within 10 seconds after answer-back buzzer switching mode is started, if a transmitter button (the same button) is pressed twice, the answer-back buzzer setting changes (off to on, or on to off) to activate or disable answer-back by buzzer.
HINT
*   The driver side door is closed.
*   The ignition switch is turned off.
*   The key is removed from the ignition cylinder.
*   A transmitter button is not pressed for 10 seconds after answer-back switching mode is started.
*   The transmitter is operated but the second button pressed is different from the first.
*   Answer-back starts.

Removing the buzzer from the fenderwell does not disable the keyless entry it only stops the beeping.  My buzzer has been removed for nearly 14 years and have always had the keyless feature working.

Finally got around to working on it.  The module I thought was making the sound was not the solution...  The one right in front of the battery.

I unplugged it,  it still beeped and the lights still flashed.  The keyless entry worked though.

However, the engine started fine twice and then died...it wouldn't run.  I replugged it in and back to normal.

Toyotadon..I will try your method tomorrow

The post on Tacoma World had a good point.  "The sound lets me know the doors are locked"

I'm in the habit of checking the handle manually and don't like beep at night when I'm trying to be quiet.

But it's something to consider.

The lights will still blink after the piezo has been removed.  If your too far to hear the locks click you can look for the lights to flash.

Here is a link to removing the piezo from a 4 gen 4runner.  Since the 4runner and Tacoma share a lot of components this part maybe in a similar position.  It is located in the inner fender (drivers side near the firewall) so you have to unclick and pull it out before you can disconnect the buzzer.  The photos on post #7 are for a 4 gen 4runner.
