Intermittent wiper fix?
« on: Oct 09, 2018, 07:28:55 PM »
Hello everyone, I've been dealing with a rather strange electrical gremlin in my Truck and I wanted to see what advice anyone can give me to fix it.

My 1985 XtraCab 4X4, has lost the intermittent wiper function. It's been like this for about a year now, and I'm sick of it!
I think it's important to note that ALL other wiper functions work, just not the intermittent portion (in any setting) - Also, it doesn't automatically activate after holding the washer button.

I can hear the relay clicking, just no movement.

Things I have done:

-Inspected the Wiper control box, pulled apart and checked for bad capacitors/fried connections

-Inspected wiper motor, and greased it.

-No blown fuses (Although, my emergency lights don't work... Obviously not related)

Any additional advice? The truck does have 346K miles, could just be worn out.
My next course of action will be to dismantle the steering column and take the wiper stalk assembly apart and either replace the stalk or just give up.

And before anyone asks, yes. I HAVE extensively researched this to no avail.

Typically it doesn't park because of the ground. Sometimes my plug would come a little looze and cause same symptoms.
hold this. . .

I don't think that's my issue since the relay still clicks. During the summer, the intermittent function begin to work, and then stopped. If the relay was truly bad, shouldn't it not click at all?

Regardless, I'll tear into it and see if this is the issue.
