Electric choke screams
« on: Aug 24, 2018, 11:16:14 AM »
I had no clue and electric choke switch could scream but, damned if it aint.
The thing is hot to the touch, clicking, making weird squealing noises and turning on & off rapidly.
I'm not new to carburetors but, I am not familiar with electronic chokes though because I am a vintage Honda motorcycle mechanic, not a Toyota tech.
Have any of you had a choke failure like this or am I just in possession of the weirdest carburetor ever?

My aisan carb electric choke failed but it didn't make any noise.  I like to convert them to manual.

Are you sure its the choke and not a solenoid.  There really is no way for a choke mechanism to scream.  Its a heated coil spring
hold this. . .

The choke on my 85 Aisin is electric with wires going into it from a temp sender and it was burning hot to the touch, clicking on and off actually screaming at me then it stopped and now my choke does not work, the noise is gone and the thing is no longer hot to the touch.
Solenoid is bottom end noise if it makes noise, the noises yesterday were at the very top coming from my carburetor.

Would you please inform me as how to make my auto choke manual?

About post number 25...  http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=100917.0    You buy a manual choke kit, remove your electric choke and just kind of figure it out.

If I can get the kit, I can figure it out.
Is it a special or generic choke kit? Because I had a manual choke on my Edelbrock 4bbl in my 70 Nomad before I got the 454 and a Holly double pumper, still have the choke cable.

I got a generic kit from napa and ended up using the cable, a brass screw fitting to clamp the end of the cable to the choke linkage and on of the little tabs to hold the end of the cable housing on the carb.  You have to flip a piece of the choke linkage over to hook it up.  It's in the pictures of that thread.
