That was Hurricane Iwa in '82.  It was minor.  Then in '92 we had Iniki it destroyed Kauai.  This one coming is even stronger.

Bummer. Kauai used to be nice. How did you flood all your trucks? On the beach?  Best of luck with this storm!!!

I live next to a river.  The last flood put 5 feet of water under my house.  It also collapsed a big portion of the cliff-side highway leading to my town into the ocean.  They'll be repairing it for another year.

It was downgraded to category 3(130 MPH or so).  Honolulu will be getting hit about thursday, friday.  Flooding is a main concern on all islands as well.  In Aprils flood, the one that took my 2005 Tacoma, it rained 50" in 24hrs.  Hopefully less this time...

A buddy lives over there, not sure on which island, and said it's just been raining for 2 days.  You'll be fine man

Yeah.  Hilo side (actually Mountain View) got 53" in the last few days.  Same as Wainiha, Kauai causing the landslides that destroyed the highway in April.

Good for now.  No water service yesterday after 2nd flood, but it's restored now.  We did have one fatality in the flood.  A man drown trying to save a dog being swept out in a river.

Hurricane Miriam and Norman are out in the Central Pacific now.  We're waiting...sheesh.

On a side note my daughter went to Hawaii for the first time in her life, she was there for the hurricane and her rental was in the path of the forest fire. Go figure, got woke up in the early morning to evacuate and was burned by the hot embers while fleeing the house.

Yeah they were fine, a little shaken but not stirred. They got a hotel and finished their trip. Though they did not think they would be able to get a flight out but everything worked out.
