1st Gen 4Runner Stock Roll Bar Help
« on: Apr 13, 2018, 11:26:34 AM »
Good Day All,

I am currently separated from my 1989 4Runner but am planning some modifications for this summer. In order to do the design work, I need a simple measurement of the stock roll bar. If someone would kindly oblige me, what's the width of the stock roll bar, from left tube to right tube? Also, could someone confirm that the tubing is 2" OD? Oddly, I've Googled and searched and never got a definite answer. Thanks for helping out!

Rob

If your plan is to make some mounting brackets to go on the OEM roll bar then go for it, but if you're wanting to use it as part of an internal roll cage I would just plan to remove it.  When I had my roll cage installed I was surprised to find out that the OEM roll bar is really only held in by a couple of small bolts (i.e. one at each support).
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

I'm doing some mounting brackets for a summer trip on easy trails, then this Fall I'm pulling it out to put in a full custom foll cage. I need the width to figure out the size mounting tray that will fit so I can start ordering the parts. I know it's a wimpy bar so it won't stay for long.
