Topic: short shift question

1982 Toyota pickup 4x4
Was looking to replace bushing that's under the shifter and got interested getting a short shift kit instead but realized there wasn't one for my L52 series I believe the 82 has ,can anyone confirm of one that would work for mine as well or tell me when they will have one for the L series

Save your money and just change the bushing unless you're out racing and have a need to bang through the gears.  I bought one for my 89 4Runner and then sold it.

Short shifters are for the guys with really small johnsons so they won't be too unfamiliar with the hand grip action that doesn't move too much.

I put the new ball socket and bushing from Marlin in my L50 and it made a large difference in the shift feel.  If you really want to tighten it up find a W56, they have a more modern feel.

Say what you guys want. The short throw shifter is icing on the cake. 

My bushing was fine but the pins were worn out. Yeh I could have removed the pins and made some bolt in style. Or I can have a shift pattern smaller then my Toyota corolla

I actually hated the tight shift pattern in my 4Runner. I loved the shirt shifter in my Camaro, but shifting fast was part of how I drove it.

the L series trannies have a very sloppy shift pattern even when the are working right, just swapping to a w56 makes it feel like you put a short throw on your L

I'm swapping out my 82 trans for a W56 for this exact same reason. I want crisper shorter shift pattern, better floor board boot sealing, less notchy. and after I swap the w56 I can put in the short throw shifter , also with a W56 ill be set up for a 3rz swap in the feature, i wont have to bump into my passengers legs anymore.

  Those guys who love that big sloppy shift pattern just want an excuses to rub the legs of their buddies in the passenger seat,

Unfortunately there is not a short throw shifter on the market for the L series transmission.   Its a unique shifter base and there is not a large market for an L series short throw, most people as stated above swap a better more modern transmission in.
