center driveshaft bushing
« on: Feb 21, 2018, 10:49:25 AM »
Has anyone made a solid mount or polyurethane bushing for the center driveshaft bearing?. I've gone through 2 of them on my 94 pickup. bushing lasts about a year then gets sloppy and vibrates.

Do you DD it or rock crawl? If you just daily then you might like a single piece driveshaft. If you rock crawl, some guys like the 2 piece to keep it out of the rocks. My truck is running a Ford Ranger carrier bearing which is a lot beefier than the stock toyota bearing.

I got tired of replacing them too, when I rebuilt my last engine I did a cheap-a$$ fix. Take a couple of tubes of Red RTV and stick the nozzles into the vent holes in the rubber that surrounds the bearing, one side at a time at angle of rotation, and fill until it won't take any more. leave it set for about a week ( I rebuilt an engine ) and install.  I did this 5 years ago as an experiment and it still works. I do like the idea of the poly support and will look into it as an option, thanks for the info.  Your experience may vary.   :twocents:

I changed mine over to a 1.5 pillow block bearing in 05. No problems since. Made my own mount for the bearing.
