DIY plate bumpers??
« on: Jan 11, 2018, 08:21:33 AM »
Will soon have access to a fair amount of fabrication tools.. mainly a CNC plasma table.

Question do you think there is a market for DIY bumper kits for toyota trucks? If so I would think the newer gen trucks more so than older?

Yes, there is still a market for front bumpers for 1st-3rd gen trucks and gens 1st-2nd gen 4-Runners, rear bumpers as well, as most, if not all manufacturers have moved on to the current generation platforms.  I don't think you will make a living at it, but it would be a source for supplemental income. You could likely find buyers for completed ready for paint bumpers as well as the DIY kit.

It would be great to see a decent looking plate bumper for the first-gen 4runners and 84/85 p-up's, as the plate bumper folks seem to have left us out.  Give it a go and see what shakes out of the trees.

Are you planning on offering weld together bumpers?

Not many people out there offering parts for 1st and 2nd gen pickup parts.

One good source is North West Trail Innovations: http://nwtrailinnovations.com/
I just bought their front and rear bumpers for my first gen 4Runner.

If someone made a good plate bumper for the 84-88 that could fit any warn winch (I'm looking at you 8274) I'd buy one.

Not for an 8274. Everything I've found is all feet down winches.

Another option on DIY plate bumpers would be great, Especially for the first gen rigs. Take your time and try not to make a boxy looking bumper if you end up making them. Anyone looking for a DIY bumper can do that them self. CBI’s first gen bumper is a great example.

It looks like Warn doesn't even make one, just mounting plates for Wranglers.  Using this mounting plate, a plate bumper should be relatively easy to build off of.

You could combine this plate from TMR Cutoms, with a bumper from NWTI, might contact them and see what they think.
