Toyota brake job
« on: Apr 30, 2017, 01:43:15 AM »
Hello there everyone , I did my first brake job today on my Toyota and ran into some big issues.  It  started off very bad from the start when I realized that taking the rotors off was going to be a pain because they didn't pop off like the majority of vehicles out there! I started out by taking out the hub which was kind of a pain in the butt because everything  fell apart and I struggled figuring out how to put it back together... then on to the part where it was time to put the new rotor from summit turns out it was the wrong size I figured that out after I had everything put back together. Is there any more simple way to do them without having to disassemble the whole thing if so give me some pointers please because I've been in the garage and parts chasing all day just trying to get some brakes on my project and daily vehicle guess I'm in over my head lol also noticed that every thing is gobbled up in some gunk

What type of truck do you have?

I've never done it before but looked into it once.  Yeah you have to pull the hub do get the brake disc off.

Do you have a FSM?

If you need a diagram for putting things back together.. From my 83 FSM:

As for the gunk that looks like CV grease to me.  Not sure if it's supposed to be all over the inside of the hub like that, as I've never broken into one, but my gut tells me no.  Someone on where who has should be able to chime in though...
