Well thanks! I may stake that nut, to try and prevent it from coming out. If it even does. Which is also not a great idea. But it doesn't leak, so I'm cool with that.
Once I get around to getting the rest of my machine work for my motor done, I'll just drop that in and have it nice.

Did You check the Y pipe bracket? Is it missing?

It's there. Not Missing. I'm guessing the bolt just vibrated out.

Here’s a link to a discussion about header studs and nuts.

http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=102688.msg1149909#msg1149909

Everyone’s experience can be different… here’s mine.

I use Red Loctite on the threads into the head.  Red Loctite will set up in about 10 minutes and cures in 24 hours.  It has a spec'd temp range to about 500d F.

The Red Loctite also acts as a sealer to help reduce the powdering and corrosion that occurs between the alloy head and the steel studs due the difference in thermal expansion.

The short length threads on stud go into the head.  I am careful NOT to over-torque the studs in the head… maybe 10 to 15 lbs.

I use anti-seize compound on the manifold or header threads.  I DO NOT use the factory exhaust manifold nuts!  They self-clamp and will cause the stud to spin inside the head when tightening or removing them.  I use a lock washer and standard hex nut, and after they take a set, I use a lock nut.

I check and carefully re-torque the nuts until they take a set and remain tight.  This may take several days to several weeks in my daily driver.

I would not recommend “staking” the nut.

That’s just my opinion – it may be worthless.

Gnarls.

Thinking about picking up this 87 Toyota truck tomorrow, no motor or trans but has a decent cab. Really only buying for the doors and bed.
Bed has rust, but it is the cool bed style. Has some rust, but I'll get my hand at rust repair on it.
The doors have the nicer (IMO) mirrors. No wing windows though.

Ended up getting the truck, 87' 2WD. Has everything but a motor and transmission. I'm considering parting it out, has some good parts in it.
Namely the igniter, since those are desirable.
The bed has some pretty bad rot, but I don't think it's unfixable. More pictures to come.

I do however like the bed, it's pretty cool.

Debating keeping the truck and swapping a small block Chevy or something in it, making a sleeper like truck. Would be pretty sick.

I actually have a hookup for a 22R+5speed out of a 3rd gen pickup, I'll probably put it in and just drive it the way it is. Keep the mileage off my 4WD.

The truck is as base model as they come, it's got the larger rear end in it I know that. Originally equipped with a 4 speed. It's got these cool little decal like things on the door for where the keys go in, haven't seen this before personally. Must've been a dealer installed Option? I'm not sure.

Attempting to fix the fuel gauge in my 85' This week since I have the box off the back.
Any tips for doing so? The fuel sending unit float gets stuck on the side of the tank, so I'll just bend the rod a tad to make sure it has full clearance. I know the FSM has resistance read outs for what it should be when full of gas.

It's been awhile, but my truck is still being worked on, basically every day!

New bed, this one came off an 84'. Got it for $75, you can see why.

Why did I get this bed? Well, I just started my welding degree here in SLC and I figured I will use those skills to fix all the rust. (I'm thinking Tig would be perfect)

Added a clock too, it's little things like this that make it so nice to drive.

Currently awaiting the next "big thing" that I'll do to this truck. That will either be full body work or a cab swap. Who wants to watch a first timer do either of those? Stay tuned.

This old couple I know is trying to sell their 85' single cab 4X4. I'm trying to buy it from them, but the guy wants 4500! The wife thinks 2500 is fair.
I offered them $800 since realistically thats what a base model no AC NO power steering and rusty Toyota is worth. Did I mention that it needs a new motor?
I'm gonna offer them $1500, hopefully they take it.
Anyone wanna help me out with some convincing reasons why it's NOT worth the price he wants?
I just want more reasons if they counter offer.

You could check for the typical frame crack above the rear leaf spring hangers, rusted floor boards, or if it's the 22r instead of the re. But those trucks are pretty desirable since the 2nd gens only came factory with solid axles for 2 years. Here in Colorado that be a $2500 truck all day.

Rusty floor boards, check under the windshield molding for rust, does it need tires? Will need a full service. Will probably need to drop the fuel tank and flush due to it having old gas sitting in it. These are good ways to knock down the price!
