Thanks for the support!!

The most challenging part will be the body work.
I have thought about sourcing a cheap 2WD truck to replace my body with, but I am just gonna tough it and paint it and do some rust repair myself.

Since the sheet metal on these is fairly thin, I can get away with a fairly cheap welder.

Heres what she looks like now:

I'm keeping the 31's, Might go back to 29's later.
Since I don't have any of my old leafs left, I have to purchase those new, I am pretty confident I can get all of the suspension components for $500 or less. Glad I kept that stock drag link!

Picked up a bench seat, it's out of a 94 Toyota Pickup. Direct bolt in, no modifications!

the bench is the way to go. been a long time since ive been in the 2nd gen scene. But i know there are bench seats that are direct bolt in that have a drop down center armrest/center console.

nice find though, that one looks clean

Maybe consider some OME springs with a leaf pulled out to loose the slight lift.  They are a pretty good price for what they are.  When I have looked for new stock style springs they actually cost more.

Agreed, I like the idea of the OME springs. I have been looking on the local classifieds for some!

Got the winch bumper off, sold it to a guy for $520 with the grille off of his 85' 4Runner.

Painted the frame and exposed parts, hopefully picking up another radiator today! Probably will be a V6 rad...

Sold the bumper today. $500 and I got his old grille. Which is off of his 85' Runner.

Went to the junkyard to get some bolts for the factory bumpers that arrives this next week.

There was 3 first generation 4Runners there, look at that A-Pillar rust!! And how clean that quarter pannel is....

Here's a highlight from my trip last weekend, Moab.
Didn't do any wheeling, this trip was for riding.

My current Motorcycle is a Honda XR650R, makes about 60HP and is the most fun I've ever had on two wheels. I ended up doing hell's Revenge, a lot of fun on motorcycles. My truck could do most of the trail.

Both bikes plus all the camping crap equalled about 1,000 pounds, with 31's and stock gears she did pretty good.

Living the dream! Ever since I bought my 16 Tacoma I've been missing my 1st Gen runner. Comfort can never out do the character those trucks have.

I see it a lot, just tonight a guy in a SAS'd Tacoma offered to buy my truck. The look and character is what makes people love them so much, even over a clearly more capable rig.

It’s amazing how beloved they are.
I can’t drive my 4runner to the gas station without having someone come over to tell Me how much they like it and wish they had one or wish they had never sold theirs. The only thing I can compare it to is a classic car.
I am telling you it’s only a matter of time before We start to see reproduction parts available.
There is to big of a following and to much love for it not to happen.

Weld in floor pannels for 2nd Gen pickups.
Replacement A pillars?
Aftermarket gauge clusters that don't cost an arm and a leg would be cool. Factory AC parts, if a company came together with a full kit, I'd buy it.

A pillars? Junk yards are loaded with them. Why after market clusters? They are easy to rebuild. What ac parts arent available? I've done many 1st and 2nd gen ac systems only had 1 short 90° fitting for 1st gen I couldn't get.

A pillars that are rust free. Sure, many of these parts are available now, but look at how many trucks are disappearing. It's only a matter of time.
Hell, even California trucks can have A pillars rust.
Just a thought. The stock AC systems aren't that amazing, but higher efficiency stuff. Imagine a "Vintage Air" type system designed for 4-cylinder trucks like ours.

Idk where you live, but in Colorado it's impossible to find good pans on a 1st Gen. I even have yota Jim about an hour away

I'm sure many of us would rather support a business that makes floorpans and what not than cut up an old truck. It's been almost two years since I've seen a First Gen in a junk yard.

And it appears my transmission needs to come out. Again. The rear main leaks, I've known about it for awhile but never really cared.
Until I saw that the front balancer seal is leaking as well.

Lucky me, I have all the gaskets and seals required to do this job.

Went ahead and order some seal savers from LCE and an oil pan bolt set. Hopefully, my clutch isn't too soaked in oil.

Normally I'd just not care about these, but I'm departing for Colorado soon. I want my truck to not leak.

Hmmmmm.... I'm having trouble with "..not care about these... " ??  But... to each his own.

I am ANAL about leaks.. .I hate leaks!!

When a rear main engine seal starts leaking, usually the crankcase oil gets on the clutch disc and it will start slipping.  Most often the clutch disc will need to be replaced.

It's been my experience that proper and conscientious maintenance on these old trucks will get you many more miles and save on repair and replacement costs, as well as trail failures.  Over the years I've seen many times a vehicle on the trail stuck, broken, or dead simply because the owner does not care about good maintenance.

By the way, just a suggestion.... if you drop the tanny, you might want to consider replacing the input shaft seal and housing gasket.  If you decided to replace the input shaft seal, I highly recommend you buy the Toyota seal.  I used Permatex Thread Sealer on the bolts, and Ultra Grey on the gasket - per Permatex.

That's just my opinion - it may be worthless.
