'06 R151F hybrid trans with R150f Tailhousing
« on: Apr 15, 2016, 07:18:51 AM »
I have an'06 Hilux 1kd-ftv engine and r151f trans i am swapping into my '88 4Runner. Currently the 4Runner has an R150f with Inchworm adapter for the R1FA t-case. I'd like to keep the adapter and tail housing to swap onto the r151f.

Does anyone know if I can use the pre 95 R150f tail housing on the 06 R151f trans? I am aware the reverse fork and gear are different on the trans and that may hinder the tail housing swap, but I am looking for definite answers and photos if they are out there. the below photo just shows the difference between the outputs on the trans, and I need to understand how the tail housings are different.

Thanks

I'm not extremely knowledgeable of the r151s. But what if any difference is there in yours and the one that came behind a turbo 22re truck that already had a rf1a case?

Well the input shaft is longer and bell housing different on the 06 r151. Also the tail housing is different to except a chain drive t-case with a driver drop. Also notice on the above picture the difference between the reverse fork and bearing assembly. The output shaft may be different also, but I'm trying to find a definite answer or pic. Thanks

Updating this thread...(I'll upload some pics, but here is what I found)

R150 tailhousing will fit the Post '95 R151 trans with a couple issues:
Must use a R150 tailhousing bearing (this bearing sits in in the tailhousing near the shifter)
Need to modify the shift fork/lever (R150 has fat shifter lever inside tailhousing, R151 has slim lever)

Edit: tail housing swap will not work between post and pre 95 R150.
